Well I am going to attempt my first bass project. I can't make up my mind on the color scheme though.

Its a Squier P Bass I do believe - I wanna upgrade everything and give it a good sound and make it look decent.

Let me know what you guys think. If you got pictures of ideas, that would be awesome too!

I'm open to all suggestions! Thank You. Very Happy

Plastic has no place on a bass, IMO. (exception being pickups, of course).

PS: I really don't dig on anything unless its a natural finish. Unless the bass is so darn good it doesn't matter.

i selected white with a black pick guard. how much you planning on dumping into this project? just some paint? you going full blown and using the body for a total re-do? if i was you and a female, i'd get a warmoth neck with black binding and black block inlays, some seymour duncan pickups and get a nice black pickguard, if i couldn't do like metalchurch does and fill in the pickup routes with spare wood and go completly without a guard and go all white with a pearl clear coat. tasty.

dude....polkadots!!! The polkadot is quickly going the way of the dodo bird and it's time for a come back, if you ask me.

But seriously, pickgaurds are gaudy and overrated....follow the wise teaching of JackANSI san, young grasshopper.

alright .... no pickguard huh? i think that would go a lil beyond my abilities but im sure i could have someone fill them in. not sure though, i kinda like a pickguard.

and im goin full bore with this one, i want a good bass but i dont wanna buy one, i think it would be more fun to build it. im gonna check out that neck you suggested, im prob goin to go with fender though cause im a fender nut. i heard dimarzio has some good bass pickups.

so i think i wanna do white with a black pickguard or black with a red pearloid pickguard. i dont know yet though.

keep the thoughts coming! Very Happy

personally I think a P bass looks super retarded with no pickguard.

Also, White + Tort FTW.

or sea foam green

unless you're getting the neck from a really expensive MIA fender ($2000+) the warmoth neck will be better quality.

I really like my aguilar preamps.

are you going for a generally classic tone (mid heavy with lots of growl) or modern tone (wide and open)

you might be better off with classic passive tone control if you're leaning towards classic tone.

here's a set of vintage Dimarzio P bass pickups on ebay, for what seems like a reasonable price:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Dimarzio-P-Bass-Pickups-circa-1978_W0QQitemZ300310569245QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item300310569245&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:14|294:50

That's what Jeff has in his P bass
