Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 3 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was so much fun when we did the first one back in March that we had to do it again! The second “Backyard Rocker” Acoustic Jam Special was as much fun as the first, as a number of area acoustic musicians crowded into “the House that Rock built” and jammed together live on the air! Thanks en masse to John Solinski (who also engineered and produced the performances), Red Solinski, John Stevens (Strummer Acoustic Show), Rick Ramsey, John Baker & Sherry Lender, and Dwane Edmiston and Lynn Endress (Acid Reflux) for putting their talents together on the air and giving the listening audience a rowdy, fun and jamming two hours! Also thanks to Paul Miller for the use of the sound board.

We also spoke with John McKelvey, Clint Carothers and Harold Hayford of The Front, discussing The Front’s reunion benefit show, happening Oct. 16 at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona, with partial proceeds going to the Make A Wish Foundation of Western PA. If that wasn’t enough, we also checked local music news, and reviewed Herbie’s “High Impact” CD on “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We also heard new music from Flight 19, Bret Alexander, Scott Mangene, Ted McCloskey, Herbie, Rick Ramsey & Mike Hruska and Jen Bertieux. Needless to say, a very busy and fun two hours!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE MARAUDERS – “Roadkill”
FLIGHT 19 – “Unlock”
THIRD STANDARD – “14 Days in a Bender”
BRET ALEXANDER – “Jonah Was a Sailor in the Body of a Whale”
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Pink Houses” (performed live on air)
SCOTT MANGENE – “Paradise”
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Sweet Home Alabama” (performed live on air)
TED McCLOSKEY – “Black Coffee Blues”
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Free Fallin’” (performed live on air)

HOUR TWO:

THE FRONT – “Still the Rain” (1989, Local Music Flashback)
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Carnival” (performed live on air)
MATT WAGNER BAND – “Cycle”
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Stuck in the Middle with You” (performed live on air)
HERBIE – “Zeke”
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Pride and Joy” (performed live on air)
RICK RAMSEY & MIKE HRUSKA – (untitled acoustic jam)
(ALL STAR JAM) – “Squeeze Box” (performed live on air)
JEN BERTIEUX – “Rare Thing”

This Sunday night, we’ll get acquainted with Harrisburg area jam rockers Herbie when they pay us a visit on the show. We’ll find out all about Herbie, their music, live show, career, and what makes them tick. We’ll hear tracks from their CD, “High Impact,” and listeners might have chances to win a copy! Get inside the musical world of Herbie, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In local music news…

The “Backyard Rocker’s” television partner, “The Underground TV,” hosted two lively nights of local original rock this past weekend at Aldo’s in Juniata. The two nights saw large crowds in attendance to witness performances from Hi-Tyde, Silver Sunday, Flight 19, The Pipebombs, The Marauders and Coinmonster. If you didn’t get to attend the kickoff party, don’t worry, “The Underground TV” will recap this weekend’s event when the show premieres next Saturday evening at 6 PM on WWCP-TV Fox 8.

A special benefit show took place this past Sunday at the PA Roadhouse in Pleasant Gap. “Cliffstock” was held in honor of Cliff Turner, the bassist and namesake for Centre County R&B group Cliff Turner & the Afterburners. Cliff has been battling kidney problems, and has been awaiting a kidney transplant. The show raised funds for Cliff, plus raised awareness about the need for organ donors and transplants. The afternoon featured performances from Cliff Turner & the Afterburners, JP Rocks, Resin 8, The Andrew Stauffer Project and Tara Johnstonbaugh.

In band personnel moves, former members of Past Curfew, Looking for June and The Podunx have formed a new Altoona-based band, Dropout High.

Halestorm has found their new bass player. Josh Smith takes over the four-string duties for the group.

The group Bad Daze has added a drummer, as former Blackout drummer Randy Wilson will be playing behind the drum kit for the majority of the group’s shows, platooning with drummer Harry Rainey.

Fans of rock and theatre, get ready for Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre’s presentation of the Rocky Horror Show, which will be showing on October 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th and 30th at 9 PM, plus special midnight performances on October 23rd and 30th. For ticket information, contact the Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre at (814) 472-4333.
