Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 14 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week, our guest was Matt Wagner, one of the fastest rising names on the Altoona area music scene. Matt brought along an additional guest, Electric Blue guitarist Jim Tangeman, who is collaborating with Matt in his new band. Matt discussed his music and career thus far, and we heard several songs Matt recently recorded at Data Music Services in Altoona. We also discussed Matt’s live show, and Matt and Jim performed several songs live on the air. In addition, we checked on Local Music News, and reviewed J.D. Strum’s latest album, “Just Another Story,” on The Professor’s CD Corner. And we debuted new songs from Flight 19, K8, 2 Skinny Dorks, Dustin Burley, Grantham Road, Tangerine, J.D. Strum and Josa Step.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
THIRD STANDARD – “Rabbit Run”
MATT WAGNER – “Alone Without You” (performed live on air)
MATT WAGNER – “You Never Know”
K8 – “Living Proof”
MATT WAGNER – “Cycle” (performed live on air)
2 SKINNY DORKS – “Hey Love”
FRANKIE & THE NOMADS – “Fool For Your Love”
DUSTIN BURLEY – “Broken Mirror”

HOUR TWO:

GRANTHAM ROAD – “Boston”
TANGERINE – “Focus In”
MATT WAGNER – “Hey Mister” (performed live on air)
MATT WAGNER – “40 Days and 40 Nights”
J.D. STRUM – “On And On”
MATT WAGNER – “Something About You” (performed live on air)
JOSA STEP – “Mention”

This Sunday night, we will be joined via phone by Pittsburgh rock legend Norman Nardini. The 'Last True Man of Pittsburgh Rock'n'Roll' will discuss his new CD, Redemption, plus we'll hear tunes from the album. We'll get inside Norman's career, and hear about his upcoming local appearance! We will also hear tunes from other area bands and artists, check on Local Music News, and review another local CD in 'The Professor's CD Corner!" It should be a wild and crazy show as Norman Nardini joins us this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” commends everybody who took part in this past Friday night’s Leeper Fire Benefit show at City Limits in Altoona, which helped to raise nearly $800 to help out Jeff and Sue Leeper and their family, after their house near Tyrone was destroyed by fire last month. It was a great evening, with spirited performances from the bands Never Enough, Jeff Leeper’s own band, Classic Cats, Bad Daze and Hair Force One.

In a related story, bassist and singer Ross Hoover will be leaving the Classic Cats at year’s end. Randy Sciarillo will take over bass duties for the group in the new year.

Another benefit show takes place this coming weekend. Pennsylvania Musician Magazine, City Limits and Q94 present the Toys for Tots benefit this Saturday at City Limits beginning at 8 PM. Bands performing include Shift, Felix & the Hurricanes, Third Standard and In. Donation at the door is either a new, unopened toy of $5 value or greater, or a $7 cash donation. All toys and monies benefit the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, helping out needy area children this upcoming holiday season.

A new band has formed from the ashes of Cambria County-based bands Paco’s Virus and Mean Streak. The new band, LadyKiller, features singer Mark Simanski, rhythm guitarist Brian Simanski, lead guitarist Bill Maguire, bassist Justin Brown and drummer Nate Duron. The group is currently creating original songs, their style is described to be towards newer rock and punk.
