Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 30 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

As promised, it was a busy two hours this week. For the first 45 minutes, we spoke with all five members of The Front, reuniting this Saturday night for a special benefit show at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona, with proceeds going to the Make A Wish Foundation of Western PA and a special Penn State Altoona scholarship fund. We spoke with the band members about the benefit, and also discussed their heyday on the area music scene during the 80's and early 90's. We also played three of The Front's most popular songs, including their breakthrough regional 1983 hit single "Girl Like You," and a live version of "Battleground for the Brave" taken from the group's 1988 appearance on the regional television show "Rock'n'Roll Revue."

Then, Even As We Speak joined us in the studio. We found out about this up and coming area rock band, heard two songs from their CD demo, and the group played five songs live and unplugged for us. The live songs especially sounded good, capturing the group's sense of melody and emotion.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BLEECH – “Across The Tracks”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “You Say, I Say”
THE FRONT – “Girl Like You”
THE FRONT – “Still The Rain”
THE FRONT – “Battleground For The Brave” (live ’88)
THE GRIMM – “Forced Reflection”
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Awake”

HOUR TWO:

SKELL – “No Solution”
FLORD – “Adversity”
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Back From Ten” (live)
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Wage A War” (live)
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Schizo”
SOUNDRIVE – “Stirrings of the Soul”
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Dried Leaves” (live)
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Reciprocate” (live)
ALEVELA – “Believe”
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Dream” (live)

This Sunday night, April 6, we welcome Pittsburgh heavy hitters Skell into the studio. We'll hear numerous tracks from Skell's recently-released debut CD, plus speak with the band members about the band, their music, live show, survival on the Pittsburgh music scene and much more. Skell visits the "Backyard Rocker," this Sunday night!

Crazy Fest gives young bands and entertainers under the age of 21 the chance to strut their stuff in the limelight and compete for trophies, awards, prizes and recognition in front of a friendly and supportive audience. Any forms of entertainers are welcome: singers, instrumentalists, dancers, actors, bands, magicians, or whatever young imaginations can come up with! Registrations are currently being accepted for participants at this year's event. Volunteers and sponsors are needed as well. For information or an application to register, call Crazy Fest host and organizer Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price.
