Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Things didn’t go as planned this week. For unknown reasons, our scheduled in-studio guests, Pittsburgh power trio Ashes To Ashes, didn’t arrive for their appearance. (A band member had contacted me earlier in the day for directions to the station, so apparently something came up at the last minute; more details as they become available.) Although Ashes To Ashes wasn’t present, their music was, and a number of songs were featured from the group’s sixth CD, “Harder Faster.”

In addition, we took the opportunity afforded us by our missing guests, and premiered a lot of new bands and music on the program this week, including new tracks from Alevela, Brok*n, Negative Space, Quiet Roaming Tanks, Roadkill, Looking for June, Even As We Speak, Bound, Lost Ledny and Kairos. Plus, we dug into the archives and pulled out Thin Ice’s 1989 regional radio hit “Hard Time,” and recapped the recent Selina Brotemarkle benefit concert in Mount Union, which featured the reunited lineups of Thin Ice, Bashful and Defiance.

This week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WISKERBISKET – “Skank”
HALESTORM – “Tempest Holy Night”
ASHES TO ASHES – “Harder Faster”
ALEVELA – “Believe”
BROK*N – “Oracle”
WINE OF NAILS – “Frenzy!”
ASHES TO ASHES – “Ashes”
NEGATIVE SPACE – “Dirty”
QUIET ROAMING TANKS – “Glance From a Passenger”
STEPT ON – “Die 4 You”

HOUR TWO:

SAUCEMONSTER – “Waiting on Life”
DEAD LEAVES – “No Reply”
ASHES TO ASHES – “Bed”
ROADKILL – “Santa Is a Big Fat Jerk”
LOOKING FOR JUNE – “Regret”
EVEN AS WE SPEAK – “Back from Ten”
ASHES TO ASHES – “Temporary”
THIN ICE – “Hard Time” (1989, Local Music Flashback)
BOUND – “Not Afraid To Cry”
LOST LEDNY – “Ponder”
ASHES TO ASHES – “Falling”
KAIROS – “Hopes/Dreams”

This coming Sunday night, December 15, we welcome the return of Altoona area bluesmen Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys for their annual visit. Since their last appearance a year ago, Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys have been road animals, taking their brand of “the blues you can’t refuse” nationwide. Hear stories from the road, the group’s plans for the New Year, and possibly some new music from them as well. Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys shake down the “Backyard Rocker” this Sunday night!

In two weeks, on Sunday, December 22, it’s the annual “Backyard Rocker” Christmas Special, featuring two hours of holiday music from area bands and artists! We will feature holiday standards covered by area musicians, as well as original holiday compositions performed by local artists. If you or your band has a holiday song you would like featured on the special, feel free to send it to the address listed below, or drop the recordings off at the Q94 offices during regular business hours.
