Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 9 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was maximum local and regional music this week on the “Backyard Rocker!” Originally, we were to have a band guest on this week’s show, but when they requested that their appearance be postponed until later in the year, we decided instead to get caught up on the pile of new CD’s and music from regional bands and artists that we received during the holiday season. Over half of the music played on this week’s program was new material; including new songs from Doctor’s Office, Katsu, Strike.Fire.Fall, Dave Blackledge, The Nightcrawlers, The Seahollies, Nitekast, e-Nation, Urinal Puck Ministries, Inner-G, Seducing Eve and Seven Revolutions. We also checked on local music news, and reviewed The Marauders’ new CD, “Midnight Rhythm,” in The Professor’s CD Corner.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
THE GRIMM – Unreal”
DOCTOR’S OFFICE – “Supernatural Hero”
KATSU – “Down the Line”
STRIKE.FIRE.FALL – “Aces Over Eights”
SOUND DRIVEN – “Spiral”
DAVE BLACKLEDGE – “Clean Underwear”
K8 – “Orion”
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “African Echo”
THE SEAHOLLIES – “Radiate”

HOUR TWO:

HI-TYDE – “You Lied”
PIVOT – “The Split”
NITEKAST – “Blue Couch”
THE MARAUDERS – “Tow the Line”
E-NATION – “1 By One”
FLORD – “Clear Mind”
URINAL PUCK MINISTRIES – “Welcome to the Sewer”
INNER-G – “Visions”
SEDUCING EVE – “Tired of Fighting”
FLIGHT 19 – “3 of a Kind”
SEVEN REVOLUTIONS – “Carolina”
SKELL – “Don’t Speak”
BLOOMSBURG TO BANGLADESH – “She’s a Zombie”

This Sunday night, it’s our first band guests of 2005, when Flight 19 visits the studio! We’ll climb on board ‘the Party Plane,’ meet the band members, find out what makes them tick, and hear music from the group. We’ll air tracks from the group’s debut EP, “Pumpkin Fogger,” and listeners will have chances to win copies; and we may hear some new Flight 19 music as well. Flight 19 takes to the skies, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

Already in the New Year, we have several upcoming benefit shows to report. Two of the benefits will raise monies to help out the surviving victims of the Asian tsunami disaster. There will be an all ages benefit to help the relief efforts on January 31st at Crowbar in State College; the bands and further details will be announced shortly. And Project Lifeboat, a local benefit project, is putting together a benefit concert in the Altoona area within the next few weeks. You can also find out more by visiting the website www.projectlifeboat.com.

Also, there will be a benefit to help out an area woman battling cancer. The benefit will take place at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona on Saturday evening, February 5th from 6 to 10 PM. Tickets are $20 each, or two for $35. Music will be provided by the local band Kyx.

After breaking up over a year ago, the Altoona-based heavy metal group Choking Faith is reforming. Returning original members Jason Mittan on vocals and Dan Miller on guitar will be joined by drummer Joe Richards and bassist Steve Seymore. The new Choking Faith will make their official debut on Friday, February 11th.

Pittsburgh heavy rockers Stronghold have announced that most of the band members will be taking on some other projects while the band works on their second album and limits their live performances to national show situations. Bassist Dan Climo and rhythm guitarist Dave Climo will join forces with Nick Hartman and Rob Perrone from Creature of Habit to form Zilch, a heavier-edged band described as similar to old-school Pantera. Meanwhile, drummer Chris Batton and lead guitarist Alex Demos have formed a tribute band called Journey to Kansas, which is a reformation of Escape – the Journey tribute act but also adding the music of Kansas as well. This project will surface in March.

Johnstown heavy rockers Rennis are searching for a new singer, as Craig Stiles has decided to leave the band to devote time to his family and work on a solo project. Any prospective lead vocalist replacements can find out more by going to Rennis’ website, www.rennislive.com.

Another Johnstown band, Pelt, is looking for a new drummer. Available drummers interested in filling the opening can email the band at leeno7@aol.com.
