Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 13 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Because they did not change their names again before this week's show, Shades Of June (formerly Falling Forward, Shadow 5 and Shadow) visited our studio and enlightened us, first about the name changes (damn those copyrighted monickers!). They then updated us on their musical direction, and provided us both with several new studio tracks, plus exclusive live footage recorded the night before at PittFest at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. And the group brought instruments and performed two songs live in the studio. Thanks to Shades Of June (they assure me that this will remain the band's name, at least through this week) for an interesting and entertaining discussion.

This also turned into one of the more eclectic editions of the "Backyard Rocker" as far as styles and sounds represented. We heard rock, blues, funk/R&B, pop, and even jazz fusion (from New York's Schleigho, who performed in State College this past Thursday). We also debuted new music from Morgan Kelly, Townhall and The Worry Knot.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BURNING BLUE – “Battle Hymn of the Republic”
BADLEES – “Like A Rembrandt”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Angel Song”
MORGAN KELLY – “Antilove”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Wait” (live at PittFest)
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Vet Bill Blues”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Five After Ten” (live)
TOWNHALL – “Chevy”

HOUR TWO:

SCHLEIGHO – “Sumo”
SHADES OF JUNE – “The Tune” (live)
SHADES OF JUNE – “Come Together” (live at PittFest)
THE WORRY KNOT – “Another Golden One”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Deele’s Song”
SHADOW – “Disappearing May”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Of Age?”

This Sunday night, April 20, our guest in the studio will be area musician and songwriter Michael Hughes. Michael will soon release "Dove & Crow," the second CD from his studio project The Worry Knot. Hear songs from the forthcoming disc, and hear Michael's insight into the songs and the emotions that inspired them. In addition, we will speak with Dennie Huber, the organizer and host of the 13th annual "Crazy Fest" Amateur Talent Show, which takes place on April 27 at the Greenwood Firehall. Michael Hughes' The Worry Knot and Dennie Huber, on the "Backyard Rocker," this Sunday night!

Q94 is once again happy to be a sponsor this year's Crazy Fest. The 13th annual Crazy Fest Amateur Talent Show takes place on Sunday afternoon, April 27, at 1 PM at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona (near City Limits). Crazy Fest gives young bands and entertainers under the age of 21 the chance to strut their stuff in the limelight and compete for trophies, awards, prizes and recognition in front of a friendly and supportive audience. Any forms of entertainers are welcome: singers, instrumentalists, dancers, actors, bands, magicians, or whatever young imaginations can come up with! Registrations are currently being accepted for participants at this year's event. Volunteers and sponsors are needed as well. For information or an application to register, call Crazy Fest host and organizer Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.
