Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 20 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

With the show host en route to Florida for rest and relaxation, this week’s program was pre-recorded, and no guests were in the studio. But what we lacked in guests, we made up for in music, with maximum local and regional music filling the show’s two-hour span. We debuted a number of new songs this week from Milkshake Jones, Mike Lindgren, Jared Campbell, Instant Tranzmission, Protoculture, Katsu, Haz-com, Urinal Puck Ministries, Uncle Travelling Matt and Texas Jerry. Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed “Disaster,” the latest studio album by State College’s Katsu.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

TED McCLOSKEY – “That Much Closer To…”
MICHAEL REICH – “Turning On a Dime”
MARTINI BROS. “Lava Lamp”
MILKSHAKE JONES – “Modern Girls”
MIKE LINDGREN – “Classified Ad”
FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
JARED CAMPBELL – “Stay On The Line”
DUSTIN BURLEY – “Broken Mirror”
INSTANT TRANZMISSION – “Frustrated”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Frustrated”
PROTOCULTURE – “Masks”

HOUR TWO:

THIRD STANDARD – “Outside Wiregrass”
HI-TYDE – “You Lied”
CONDITION K – “Laceration”
KATSU – “Big Riff”

4 DAYS DIRTY – “Downtime”
STICKER – “Empty Bottles”
KUNG FLUDE – “Weapon Face”
URINAL PUCK MINISTRIES – “Slave to the Puck”
UNCLE TRAVELLING MATT – “Go Full Throttle”
TEXAS JERRY – “Right Behind You”

This coming Sunday night, the show host will be back from vacation, and welcoming Harrisburg-based rock band Milkshake Jones into the studio! We’ll become better acquainted with Milkshake Jones and their brand of music, and learn about their tunes, live show, career to date and more. Milkshake Jones pays a visit, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In local music news…

Felix & the Hurricanes have received notification that they have been accepted to play the Pittburgh Blues Challenge. The Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania (BSWPA), in conjunction with The Blues Foundation, is staging the Western Pennsylvania Blues Challenge this spring. The winner will be entitled to represent the BSWPA at the 22nd International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee early next year. Assuming that a sufficient number of applications are received, the competition will begin with 16 bands, selected by the BSWPA, who will square off at four separate semi-final venues in Western Pennsylvania. The semi final winners will then compete at a final where the Western Pennsylvania Blues Challenge Champion will be crowned. Prizes will be offered to semi-final and final winners based upon application and door receipts, and, assuming sufficient revenues, the WPABC Champion will be provided travel and lodging for the 2006 Memphis competition. Felix & the Hurricanes will perform and compete at Moondogs in northern Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 2nd.

Vs. the Earth has announced that they will be releasing an EP that contains the studio version of their popular song “Friend Zone,” a live version of “Carolina Sky,” and a few previously released tracks. The EP is being released in limited quantity.

In band personnel news, keyboardist Scott Barkhimer has left the Johnstown-based party band Yum to pursue bass playing again. Scott plans on performing both for an out of town group he has auditioned for, and resurrecting an 80's project in the Johnstown area.

Congratulations to two members of Flight 19 who became parents recently. In late February, drummer Darin Hand and his wife, Lee Ann, became parents of a baby boy. And just this past week, guitarist Scott Imler and his wife, Wendy, became proud parents again, this time of a baby boy. Congratulations to both musicians, their wives and new additions.
