Jasoake....I agree, you get too many effects at one time, yeah its gonna sound like crap....I use mine like stomp box....one preset for my distortion tone, one for my lead tone, one for a clean tone, one for a clean tone with chorus, another for clean with lots of delay for a U2 song we do. but anyway.

I don't like the idea of relying too heavily on pedals to produce the sound you're looking for, as opposed to using the amp. If you put a $75 dollar pedal in front of a $2500 amp, you're going to sound closer to 75 bucks than anything else.

It's not the price of the pedal that matters, it's how you use it. If you rely on the pedal for 90% of your tone, then yeah it's probably not a great idea. But a cheap pedal in front of a fire-breathing amp just works. Is it logical? No. But it works.

The craziest example I can think of is Robben Ford, who's been rocking godly tone from a $25k Dumble for 30 years. Yet at some point recently he added a Zendrive in front of it... a $200 pedal designed to mimic the sound of Robben Ford playing a $25k Dumble. WTF? He still sounds godly, though.

I run a pedal that cost me $40.00 into the front of my SLO and it sounds completely amazing.

Thanks for the mention Mel. Love that 5150 iii! So easy to dial in and sits great in the mix. Like it best with the Nova System, can change the 5150 with midi. Those iStomps aren't too bad. At $39 brand new I couldn't pass them up. Four of them on a Pedaltrain Nano makes a nice little grab & go board.

Check out this rig rundown of Ford.

Monster player, monster tone, and an all around cool guy.

With excellent hair.

Also, thanks for the shoutout, Mel. I don't deserve to be included in such lofty company. You must have had a blank space to fill because you're too humble to list yourself.
