Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 18 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We again provided maximum local and regional music this week as we again checked out some recent-arriving new recordings. We debuted new songs from The Arts, Taylor Perry, Raven & the Wren and Essential End. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1997 number from Mount Union's Pipe Down from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a new song by New York-based Ian Mellencamp.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Keep on Rockin'"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Oolalala"
THE ARTS - "Bertholettia Excelsa"
THE WRECKERS - "Best Days"
NICK STAHLMAN - "At the Bottom"
WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING - "Lucky" (live)
BLACK RIDGE - "Down the Road"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Everybody Else"
TAYLOR PERRY - "Wrong Girl"
MATT PLETCHER - "Sure Thing"
MYCENEA WORLEY - "Siren"

HOUR TWO:

GENE THE WEREWOLF - "The Loner"
MAKING STATE - "All I Need"
MELVILLE WALBECK - "Fireflies"
RAVEN & THE WREN - "Sinking"
ESSENTIAL END - "Essential End"
PIPE DOWN - "God Only Knows" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
IAN MELLENCAMP - "Headsound" (Across State Lines)
SHARKY - "The Fruitmaster"
PARADIGM - "Harbinger"
HATE GRENADE - "Killjoy"
POST TRAUMATIK - "Set You Free"
WHITE WITCH - "Street Corner Madness"

As more new recordings continue to arrive, we will again be introducing new tunes to you on next week's show! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Empire In Decline's The Rhythm of Regret CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 16 - Derek Woods Band
OCT. 30 - Halloween Special
NOV. 13 - Patched Together (preview)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

The Altoona area lost a live music venue when The Island nightclub burned down on September 13. The venue, which primarily served as a dance venue, also featured acoustic acts on a limited basis during the past few months. An investigation continued into the cause of the fire.

A benefit concert to help out the Altoona Food Bank will happen during Halloween weekend in late October. The Trick or FEED Halloween Bash will happen on Friday night, October 28 at McGarvey's in Altoona, starting at 10 p.m. Seven bands will perform on two stages; including Hate Grenade, Naildriver, One Step From Falling, Adesta, Darkness On The Radio, 44Mag and Klockwick. Donation will be $5 for advance tickets, and $10 the night of the show. Donations of non-perishable food items will enter donors for a chance to win a $125 Sheetz gift card.

And a prequel to November's Patched Together benefit concert will happen in late October. The Patch Club fundraiser will take place on Friday evening, October 28 at The Casino at near Altoona's Lakemont Park. The event will feature a mystery dinner theater, followed by live music from Tommy Wareham and the Intrigues. Tickets for the event are $50 each, and can be purchased through Home Nursing Agency. Proceeds will help out Home Nursing Agency's Healing Patch program, which provides mentoring and counseling for grief-stricken area youth.
