Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 16 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to Derek Woods and Joshua Carns of the Derek Woods Band for being our guests this week! We caught up with Derek and Josh and recorded this week's interview on location outside Fox's Pizza Den in Ligonier during the excitement of the Fort Ligonier Days Festival! We found out about the band and their mission, and featured songs from their upcoming new EP Taste! We also debuted new songs by Chrome Moses, Bill Toms and Nobody's Heroes, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1997 number by Johnstown's Bonedigger from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Raven and the Wren's Friend of Failure CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

Due to a last-minute technical difficulty, the show aired an hour later than usual, from 9 to 11 p.m. instead of its usual 8 to 10 p.m. slot. Because of this, we will be re-airing the Derek Woods Band interview during our Thanksgiving weekend program on November 27, for listeners who may have missed it due to this week's snafu.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS RATTIE - "Burn 'Em Down"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Little Ears"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Go All Night"
CHROME MOSES - "Horse Faced Lynn"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Much Better Now"
BILL TOMS - "On the Road of Freedom"
OVERHEAD - "Midnight Son"
CHRIS BELL - "Bucket List"

HOUR TWO:

NOBODY'S HEROES - "Reflections of My Demise"
TIM WOODS - "Deep Elum Blues"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Don't Look Away"
RAVEN AND THE WREN - "Friend of Failure"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Big Truck"
BONEDIGGER - "Truck" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
AIRBORNE (with Jeff Jimerson) - "Not That Kind of Girl"
HABATAT - "Gold"

Next week, it's back to the mailboxes to check out more new recordings, meaning we will be debuting more new music for you! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Ember's Fall's Cessation CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 30 - Halloween Special
NOV. 13 - Patched Together (preview)
NOV. 27 - Derek Woods Band (rebroadcast)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Bellefonte-based punk rockers Subject to Change have announced their farewell from the area music scene. The group forged onward following the unexpected passing of lead singer John Van Horn in August of last year, but has decided to close the book on their run. The band members have not yet decided on possible future musical endeavors.

In band personnel happenings, local '80s acoustic rockers Teazed have added two more members, bassist Mike Stanley and drummer Shawn Gioiosa. The expanded Teazed Roster performed on Oct. 15 at Family Pizza & Pub in Altoona.

Bassist Scott Bush announced that he is taking an indefinite break from the band scene, and is stepping away from Altoona metal rockers Naildriver. Scott cites personal reasons for his decision.

Drummer Jordan Thompson is leaving State College favorites The Nightcrawlers. His last show with the group will be on Wednesday, October 26 at The Saloon in State College.

A benefit concert for a popular area entertainer and dance host is taking place early next month. The benefit will help local dance deejay Jeff Skidmore - DJ Skiddy - with expenses as he undergoes a kidney transplant in late November. The benefit will happen on Sunday, November 6 at Eldolyn Terrace in Altoona. The event will start at 2 p.m., and will feature performances from the bands BA Brawlers, Bone Jacked, This Albatross and 100 Proof. A basket auction will also take place. There is no admission charge, but free donations will be accepted during the event.
