We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1990 number by Fatal Maim from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Baltimore-based indie rockers Hollywood Blanks, and reviewed Sherri Mullen's Rise CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

In Local Music News...

The local and regional music scene lost two members in recent days. Dr. Dave Parry passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday evening, January 4, at age 58. Dave played a variety of stringed instruments and sang, and was both a solo performer and leader of several blues-based groups through the years, notably 9 Lb. Hammer, Flying Debris and the Porch Dawgs. He more recently was a member of the Allegheny Bilge Rats Shanty Choir and the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective. He was also a professor of philosophy and ethics at Penn State Altoona, and his academic career spanned 30 years. Our condolences go out to Dave's surviving family, friends, fellow musicians and colleagues.

The year 2016 closed out with the passing of a musician who played throughout east and central PA. Chris Altland, who played bass for such bands as Cloud Party, Angels n' Saints, Sugarcoat and more, passed away unexpectedly on December 29 at age 44.

Area bluegrassers Mama Corn unveiled their third full-length CD this past weekend. The new album, Live and Learn, was released via a special CD-release event on Saturday night at the Old Canal Inn in Hollidaysburg.

Now based in Denver, Colorado, former area musician Jason McIntyre has assembled a new band that will release its debut album later this year. Jason has formed LeMont, which features several of Jason's former colleagues from past area bands. His former Rustlanders bandmates Jason "Junior" Tutwiler on guitar and Corry Drake on bass, former Contraband bandmate and keyboardist James Harton, fiddler Dan Collins, singer Kate Twoey and drummer Kevin Lowe will bring Jason's song creations to life in LeMont. The sound is described as being inspired by 1970s-era rock and blues. The debut CD, called Bloomsday, will be released in spring, but a special limited pre-release of the album will be unveiled when LeMont performs at Elk Creek Cafe in Millheim on Saturday evening, February 4.

The band Electrify the Farm has parted ways with singer/guitarist Rue Moyer, and is rebooting as a new band project called No Man's Band. They are writing new original song material, and will debut their new incarnation at McGarvey's on Saturday, February 4.

Two former members of popular Altoona-based band Rain Must Fall have reunited to collaborate on an acoustic project. Singer Michael Kensinger and guitarist Jarrett Bickel are working on new song material, and their new project - the Kensinger-Bickel Project - should surface on area acoustic stages soon.
