Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 5 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we recapped the 21st annual Millennium Music Conference, which took place last weekend (Feb. 23-25) at the Best Western Premier, the Central Hotel and Conference Center in Harrisburg. This year's Millennium featured two days of music business panels, artist mentoring, keynote speakers, a trade show, and showcases featuring more than 275 bands and artists, some from as far away as Saskatchewan, Canada and Australia! The "Homegrown Rocker" was there, and we captured some audio from the conference. During this week's program, we aired excerpts from this year's two Millennium keynote presentations, featuring Crobot singer Brandon Yeagley and Live guitarist Chad Taylor. We also aired comments from other Millennium participants, and played music from many of the bands and artists who attended and showcased at this year's conference. In addition, we announced the winner of our "Homegrown Rocker" dropbox contest, where bands and musicians at the conference were invited to submit recordings, with one recording drawn from the box at conference's close for a guest interview and appearance on our March 12 program; this year's winner was Norfolk, Virginia-based singer/songwriter Mike Lawson! We also updated "Local Music News," and reviewed Striped Maple Hollow's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CROSSROADS DUO - "Nothin' But the Blues"
JACK PYERS - "Cowboy Song"
AUTOPILOT - "Hurricane"
SIX BAR BREAK - "The End"
MIKE LAWSON - "Old Train Car"
THE WRECKERS - "Best Days"
(Brandon Yeagley keynote excerpts)
CROBOT - "Nowhere to Hide"
SMALL TOWN TITANS - "A Beautiful Lie"
REMEMBER SEPTEMBER - "Free"

HOUR TWO:

GMO - "Rock and Roll"
THE JUKEHOUSE BOMBERS - "Rooster Gets to Crowin'"
SOFEYA AND THE PUFFINS - "Night Owl"
STRIPED MAPLE HOLLOW - "Giving Up on Giving Up"
(Chad Taylor keynote excerpts)
LIVE - "I Alone"
1 ECHO 1 - "Give In"
NEVERWAKE - "Suffocate"
HIGHWAY 4 - "Rhythm"
ADO - "Passion"

Our next program will stick with the Millennium Music Conference theme, as our guest will be Mike Lawson, the winner of our "Homegrown Rocker" dropbox drawing during the conference's trade show! We will learn Mike's story and get inside his music, plus hear tunes from his debut solo CD, Lie Here with Me! We will also feature more music from bands and artists who participated in the conference, update "Local Music News," dig a song from a past band or artist from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review a CD (or two) from a Millennium band or artist in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 12 - Mike Lawson (Millennium Drawing winner)
MAR. 19 - St. Patrick's Day Special (local Irish music)
APR. 2 - Psycho Prophecy
APR. 9 - Wings That Buzz
APR. 16 - The Crew of the Half Moon

In Local Music News...

Band formations, breakups and transformations lead our look at this week's local music news...

In a surprise development, longtime Johnstown party band favorites Yum, whose career spans more than 18 years, have announced that they are parting ways and calling it quits effective immediately.

Pistol Peg may be gone, but the Beer Kegs carry on. Several months after area country music favorites Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs stepped off their saddles, the 'Beer Kegs' portion of the group has announced their return to area stages with a new name. Now called The Ten High Five, the group will blend country and classic rock favorites. The Ten High Give's official debut performance will be on Friday night, June 2, when they open for The Clarks during the kickoff event of the "Alive @ Five" Summer Concert Series at Altoona's Railroaders Museum.

Everett jam/funk-rock favorites Mixing Numbers With Sounds have parted ways with longtime guitarist Tanner Means. The group plans to continue on.

And a brand new band debuted on Altoona area stages this past weekend. Urban Myth debuted during a five-band benefit show at Chewy's Pizza in Altoona on Sunday (Mar. 5). The benefit was for the surviving family of recent ATV accident victim Derek Burr. Urban Myth features singer Byron Cassidy, bassist Aaron Gindlesperger, guitarist Kirk Robinson and drummer Jeff Hahn, and the mix rock, country and blues. Other bands performing at the benefit included Texas Whiskey Authority, Bone Jacked, 100 Proof and Agent Smith.
