Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 18 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

On March 8, 1998, a one-hour program called the "Backyard Rocker" made its debut on an Altoona FM station; its mission to spotlight music from local and regional bands and artists each week. Two years later, the show expanded to two hours in length, and as it jumped to a second radio station home in 2008, its name was changed to the "Homegrown Rocker." Through two decades and three radio stations, this show has provided a valuable resource for local and regional PA musicians to have their music heard on the air, and for listeners and fans to discover the wealth of musical talent located in the foothills of west-central PA and beyond! We celebrated two decades of the "Homegrown/Backyard Rocker" on this week's program, spotlighting show highlights from the program's first 20 years! We began the program with the very same Edison song that began that first edition back in 1998, and featured two songs created about this very program, courtesy of Felix & the Hurricanes (the first band to appear live on the program)! And we spotlighted memories such as a teenaged Elizabeth (pre-Lzzy) Hale performing a keyboard ballad live on the air in 2000, Tony Mollick and the Groove Junkies discovering how to turn a reel-to-reel tape machine into a mixer channel during a 1998 on-air performance, Mama Corn's Jeremy Nelson landing a whopper catfish during an interview and fishing adventure from 2017, an eight-minute monster acoustic jam of a Motorhead classic during an "Acoustic Jam Special" edition from 2005, and more! We also remembered a few show guests we have lost over that 20-year span, including John Baker, Eric Vincent "Fat Vinny" Kelly (with Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys) and Dr. Dave Parry (with 9 Lb. Hammer). Here's to 20 years of "Homegrown Rocker" memories, and the hopes for 20 more years!

Here is this week's playlist:

We'll have a guest on our next program, as we present the winner from our dropbox drawing during last month's 22nd annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg - Jeannine Higgins! A Bucks County native who now calls the Houston, Texas area her home, Jeannine will discuss her music and career, and we will hear songs from her self-titled debut album! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of PA!
