Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 8 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We welcomed guests into the studio this week, as three members of State College/Altoona-based rock group The Roof joined visited us! We met the band members and learned their story, and got inside their music and career. And as they brought instruments, they performed several of their original songs live and acoustic during our conversation! Along the way, we debuted a new tune from Dylan E. Miller, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1997 tune by Harrisburg's Bamboo Igloo from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Chris Bell 100% Blues' Baptized By the Blues CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

TED McCLOSKEY - "Bigger Bombs"
THE CLARKS - "Shimmy Low"
THE ROOF - "No Fool"
DYLAN E. MILLER - "Favorite Distraction"
THE ROOF - "Drought" (performed live on the air)
TIM WOODS - "Deep Ellum Blues"
THE ROOF - "Silver Screen" (performed live on the air)
SILVER SCREEN - "Cheap Nachos"
LEMONT - "Picture of a Thought"

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Whirlwind" (live)
THE COMMONHEART - "Aloysius"
THE ROOF - "Trouble in My Veins" (performed live on the air)
CHRIS BELL 100% BLUES - "I'm Your Man"
THE ROOF - "Alan's Song" (performed live on the air)
BAMBLOO IGLOO - "Loser" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
THE ROOF - "Moving to the Country" (performed live on the air)
NAG CHAMPIONS MYSTERY BAND - "Brown River Blues"

On our next program, we will return to the mailboxes to get to more of the new recordings that have arrived at "Homegrown Rocker" headquarters in recent days - meaning lots of new tunes, and maximum local and regional music! Along the way, we will dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a tune by an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review One Adam 12's Sophomore Jinx CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 22 - Shattered
MAY 13 - Silver Screen
MAY 20 - Tim Woods Band
MAY 27 - Memorial Day Special
JUNE 3 - Psycho Prophecy
JUNE 10 - Hate Grenade
JUNE 17 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 24 - Behind the Grey

In Local Music News...

The finals are set for 105.9 Qwik-Rock and The Arena's "Battle of the Bands" competition, which happens next Saturday night (April 14) at The Arena in State College. State College rockers Making State punched their ticket to the finals by winning their preliminary round on Friday night, joining other finalist bands 86 Bullet, Fyre, Traverse the Abyss and Rest in Peace. The first band takes the stage at 7 p.m. The top three winners will win prizes, with the first place band also winning a paid gig at The Arena.

And the area music scene recently mourned the loss of a longtime member with the passing of Eric Deamer on March 23. Eric was 48. Eric played guitar with a number of Huntingdon and Mifflin County-based rock bands during the past three decades, including Defiance, Thin Ice and others.
