Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 1 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

With no guests or specials scheduled for this week, we took the opportunity to empty the mailboxes and explore new recordings that have arrived lately. We debuted some new music, including songs from We Came From Space, Black Star Sunrise, Conflict Cycle, Afraid Of Human and Negan. We also updated "Local Music News," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Brooklyn, New York's Futurist, and reviewed The Crooked Line's Far From Perfect CD in "The Professor's CD Corner." And we dug into the archive twice for "Local Music Flashbacks," featuring a 1982 number from Harpo during the first hour, and a 1987 number from Erie rockers Mars during the second hour!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Ahh Can You Feel It"
CONNER GILBERT - "Here's to the Days"
THE COMMONHEART - "Cannonball"
MAMA CORN - "Goodbye Comfort Home"
NATIVE ALLOYS - "Windsor Tie"
HARPO - "Where the Sidewalk Ends" (1982, Local Music Flashback)
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "We Came From Space"
JONAH WHALE - "Hale to the King"
TUKURPA - "Leprechaun"
INSIDE OUT - "Giving Myself Away"
ANATOMY OF THE SACRED - "Narcissi"

HOUR TWO:

ANDY MOWATT'S STEELY JAM - "Jello Molds"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Burns Like Hell"
BLACK STAR SUNRISE - "Death Don't Have No Mercy"
THE CROOKED LINE - "Song For You"
CONFLICT CYCLE - "Serpentine"
MARS - "Ash Tuesday" (1987, Local Music Flashback)
FUTURIST - "Word of Mouth" (Across State Lines)
SILVER SCREEN - "Bar Swing"
AFRAID OF HUMAN - "Gut Check"
HATE GRENADE - "Revelation"
NEGAN - "Where Do We Go From Here"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Paint My Bones Black"

On our next program, we present the 2018 installment of our "Cover Song Special!" We'll explore how local and regional bands and artists interpret and integrate the music of others into their own style and sound! This is always an interesting journey as area musicians cross genre boundaries and present familiar (and not-so-familiar) tunes in their own distinctive way! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," and dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 15 - Psycho Prophecy
JULY 22 - Dylan E. Miller
JULY 29 - Native Alloys
AUG. 5 - Tukurpa
AUG. 19 - We Came From Space
AUG. 26 - Behind the Grey
SEPT. 9 - Whiskey Pie

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Tragedy unexpectedly unfolded on a regional stage on June 23. As his band was kicking off a multi-band show at the Skybox Sports Bar in Montoursville, C-4 drummer Troy Lamey suddenly suffered a heart attack on stage and passed away at UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport. Troy was 55. Before C-4, Troy played drums for the groups Romeo and Chubby Kid Running. He leaves behind a son, a brother, two sisters and his mother. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express our condolences to Troy's surviving family, friends and bandmates.

One of Pennsylvania's legendary rock bands is back in action and returning to the area. Harpo is back and playing shows again, and will be headlining at the annual People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts in Boalsburg later this month. The Harpo lineup of bassist and singer Bill Kerstetter, singer and keyboardist John Lloyd Kistner, lead guitarist Chris Silvagni and drummer Richard Smith will headline the People's Choice Festival's South Stage on Saturday evening, July 14, starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the festival is free.
