Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 29 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We were originally to have band guests this week, but schedule changes and logistical issues with coordinating the interview forced postponement of their appearance until later in the year. Instead, we checked out a few new recordings that arrived in the mailboxes, and previewed the upcoming AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival, featuring tunes from some of this year's performers. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Donnie Iris, Jakob's Ferry Stragglers, Jeff Mamett, Glenn Strother Project, Two Birds, and we posthumously debuted a number from Altoona-based punk rockers Lose The Name after they recently played their last show. We also dug a 2004 song by Bret Alexander from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from New Orleans-based blues rocker Eric Johanson!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE ROOF - "Kindled"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Much Better Now"
DONNIE IRIS - "Sing the Songs of Summer"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Marshmellow Overcoat"
WALT & JACKIE - "Steppin' Stone"
ERIC IAN FARMER - "When You Walked into the Room"
STRIPED MAPLE HOLLOW - "Cog in a Wheel"
JAKOB'S FERRY STRAGGLERS - "The Homefront"
JEFF MAMETT - "Off and Runnin'"
MAMA CORN - "The Hanging of Alfred Andrews"
GLENN STROTHER PROJECT - "Mad World"

HOUR TWO:

BASTARD BEARDED IRISHMEN - "Whiskey, Rum, Bourbon, Beer"
THE MARAUDERS - "We Are the Marauders"
NEON SWING X-PERIENCE - "Speakeasy"
THE BILLY PRICE BAND - "Something Strange" (live)
TWO BIRDS - "Snowflake"
BRET ALEXANDER - "Gentleman East" (2004, Local Music Flashback)
ERIC JOHANSON - "Bang Against the Wall" (Across State Lines)
GABE STILLMAN - "Ain't Gonna Change"
LOSE THE NAME - "Dead End"
X's FOR EYES - "Thieves"
TUKURPA - "Dream of Me"
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Fearless"

We'll have band guests on our next program, as we catch up with Harrisburg-based rock group Tukurpa, who were first on our show back in 2012! We'll learn about the current Tukurpa lineup, discuss their music and career, and hear songs from their latest CD, Hidden Broken Pieces! Along the way, we'll update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review The Clarks' Madly in Love at the End of the World CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 19 - We Came From Space
SEPT. 9 - Whiskey Pie
SEPT. 23 - On The Brink
OCT. 7 - The Chrome Hearts
OCT. 28 - Halloween Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
