Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 5 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We hit the road this week, catching up with our band guests, Harrisburg-based rock group Tukurpa, at their practice facility near Duncannon. We became acquainted with the group's current roster, learned their story (including the origin of the name Tukurpa, a Hopi Indian word), and checked out tunes from their latest CD, Hidden Broken Pieces! Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Commonheart and On The Brink, dug a 1994 song by Pittsburgh's High Voltage from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed The Clarks' Madly in Love at the End of the World CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "U-235"
TIM WOODS - "Human Race"
TUKURPA - "Dream of Me"
ONE ADAM 12 - "Legendary"
TUKURPA - "Wonder Why"
THE COMMONHEART - "Questions"
TUKURPA - "You Change - I Change"
SILVER SCREEN - "Labelled Off"
ON THE BRINK - "Frank"

HOUR TWO:

HYBRID ICE - "Faith Without Works"
TUKURPA - "Picture Frame"
THE CLARKS - "The Longest One Night Stand"
TUKURPA - "Happy Tune"
HIGH VOLTAGE - "Fishin'" (1994, Local Music Flashback)
TUKURPA - "Sacrifice"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Daylight Apparitions"

For our next program, it's back to the mailboxes to check out more new recordings from area bands and artists! Along the way, we'll update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a song by an independent band or artist from outside PA, and review Andy Mowatt's Steely Jam's Vol. I: Rock Hard Funk CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 19 - We Came From Space
SEPT. 9 - Whiskey Pie
SEPT. 23 - On The Brink
OCT. 7 - The Chrome Hearts
OCT. 28 - Halloween Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. In Local Music News...

A couple of area heavy rock bands are undergoing personnel changes. Altoona metal rockers Fyre are seeking a new lead guitarist to replace Zach Kensinger, who is leaving the group to further his education. Zach's final show with Fyre will be on August 11 at The Arena in State College, a double-bill with Baltimore rockers 86 Bullets. Fyre last month released their second album, The 2 Keys.

Northern Pennsylvania heavy rockers Ember's Fall are seeking a new drummer, as Josh Sheesley is leaving the group to attend to personal matters. Ember's Fall played at the Canyon Music Festival at Wellsboro's Tyoga Country Club on August 4, an event headlines by a reunion performance by Backstreet Law.

Duncansville-based country rockers The Chrome Hearts are set to issue their debut album. The CD, called Oh No!, will officially be released via a CD-release event on Friday, August 24 at the Catholic War Vets Club in Altoona. The Chrome Hearts will be guests on the "Homegrown Rocker" to discuss the album and their music on October 7.
