Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 19 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, they came from space...Western PA musical adventurers We Came From Space were our guests, and we caught up with them at Dean's Diner near Blairsville for an interesting conversation that included discussion about their new album While You Were Away, their other musical happenings, the craftsmanship and symmetry of The Diner's roast beef sandwich with gravy, music business philosophies derived from The Diner's pie and more. (We also encountered a praying mantis from space in The Diner's parking lot afterward.) With Dave Buzard and Dave Hawk as part of the We Came From Space entourage, we featured a track from their former band, Ask A Stranger - from the recently remastered edition of that group's 1991 album Stranger Things Have Happened - for our "Local Music Flashback." We also debuted new songs from the Stevee Wellons Band and 13 Saints, updated "Local Music News," and reviewed M.F.G.'s Is There Life After Rock? CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LENINA CROWNE - "Morse Code"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "Out of Dodge"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "We Came From Space"
STEVEE WELLONS BAND - "Ain't Gonna Take It"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Vivid Colours"
13 SAINTS - "New York Doll"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Business As Usual"

HOUR TWO:

AFRAID OF HUMAN - "Repercussions of War"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Shield Me"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Pieces of the Sky"
M.F.G. - "Naked Truth"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Eye to Eye"
ASK A STRANGER - "She Wants Me" (1991, Local Music Flashback)
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Something's Nothing"

On our next program, it's back to the mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived - meaning we will be debuting lots of new tunes from local and regional bands and artists! We will also update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for another "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 9 - Whiskey Pie
SEPT. 23 - On The Brink
SEPT. 30 - Gordon Tittsworth (Images Of Eden)
OCT. 7 - The Chrome Hearts
OCT. 28 - Halloween Special
NOV. 25 - 20th Anniversary Special (rebroadcast)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
