Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 16 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Christmas season music from the area music scene was again the central theme of our program, as we caught up with guest Bo Moore for a conversation recorded at BottleWorks Ethnic Arts Center in Johnstown. After the success of last year's initial Christmas compilation CD, A Johnstown Christmas Volume I, Bo and his associates followed it up with this year's A Johnstown Christmas Volume II! We discussed the creation of the album, and featured numerous new songs off the album! Along the way, we debuted new holiday songs from Rodeo Serenade, Charlie Barath and Kenny Murdick, as well as new tunes from Bryan Fazio and Bill Ferrell. We also updated "Local Music News" and dug a 1982 song from Centre region rockers The Stabilizers from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS RATTIE - "Hotel By the Highway"
RODEO SERENADE - "Jingle Bell Rock"
JOSH GALLAGHER - "Away in a Manger"
CHRIS BELL - "Pearly Gates"
JOHNNY BAYUSH - "Suddenly It's Christmas"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Medicine Man"
SMOOTH SOUND - "Holiday Wishes"
JIMMY ADLER - "Midnight Rooster"
BRYAN FAZIO - "Mellow My Soul"
THE COMMONHEART - "Questions"

HOUR TWO:

ANGRY JOHNNY STANGRY - "Sugarbush Queen"
CHARLIE BARATH - "A Christmas for All"
THE MOORE BROTHERS with KEN DEATER - "Santa Stuck on 219 Blues"
BILL FERRELL - "Fast Trail to Hell"
THE MUTUAL FUN SOCIETY - "A Question for Santa"
THE STABILIZERS - "Midnight Dreamer" (1982, Local Music Flashback)
DYLIN SNEDDEN - "Santa, Please Bring Me Cash"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Lonely Cells"
KENNY MURDICK - "The Christmas Song"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Coming Home to You"

With the last two programs serving as the build-up, our next program will be the official 2018 "Homegrown Rocker" Christmas Special! We will feature two hours of holiday music from the area music scene, including original holiday tunes from local bands and artists, plus their renditions of time-tested holiday favorites! Along the way, we will dig into the archive for a Christmas-themed "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to hear a holiday song from an independent band or artist from outside the state! So have the cookies and eggnog ready for the Christmas Special edition of the "Homegrown Rocker!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 30 - YEAR-END SPECIAL
JAN. 13 - DEADSIDE

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Blair County-based heavy metal rockers Klockwick have announced they are parting ways after a six-year-run on area stages.

Johnstown-based blues group Black Cat Moan is at work recording their new CD. The recording is taking place at Data Music Services in Altoona, and the new CD should be available sometime in early 2019.

And the Johnstown music scene mourns the passing of John Shaffer, who passed away on Saturday, December 8 following a brief illness. John was 64. John had sung and performed in numerous bands, including Who's Your Daddy, Johnny & the Blues Rockers and others. John is survived by a wife and son. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express our condolences to John's family, friends and musical colleagues.
