Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 6 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Since holiday themes dominated the last several shows of 2018, we began 2019 by visiting the mailboxes to check out new recordings from the area music scene that arrived during the holiday season. We introduced lots of new music; debuting songs from Lowjack, The Evergreens, Bigfoot's Ugly Mansion, Mysterytrain, 3 Broken Dolls, Coleman Rigg, Fyre, Darkness on The Radio, Steve Treado, Sharky, Images Of Eden and Traverse the Abyss. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 number by Julian Fist from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from New Jersey's Anker.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CLOVER feat. MATTHEW WYZYKOWSKI - "Auld Lang Syne"
RIK GOLDEN - "The Gig Is Up"
LOWJACK - "When You Were Mine"
THE EVERGREENS - "Take Heart"
BIGFOOT'S UGLY MANSION - "Merci"
NAG CHAMPIONS MYSTERY BAND - "Fertile Crescent"
MYSTERYTRAIN - "Alley Cat Man" (live 11/2/18 at Tenth Anniversary Bash)
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "Prisoner 743"
3 BROKEN DOLLS - "What Happened to the Land of Dreams"
WOJO - "Necklace in My Pocket"
COLEMAN RIGG - "Puzzled at Your Door"

HOUR TWO:

INSIDE OUT - "Sacrifice"
NEGAN - "Obsolete"
FYRE - "Premonition"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "New Murders, Old Crows"
STEVE TREADO - "Going Home"
JULIAN FIST - "Fly Away" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
ANKER - "Flame" (Across State Lines)
JONAH WHALE - "Hale to the King"
SHARKY - "Drone Factor XZ7"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Waiting for the Sky to Fall"
TRAVERSE THE ABYSS - "Diamonds"
DEADSIDE - "Street Smarts"

We will continue to investigate our mailboxes on our next edition, checking out more new local and regional recordings that arrived during the holiday season! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to discover music from another independent band or artist from outside PA, and review Bryan Fazio's Like a Gorilla CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 27 - FYRE
FEB. 3 - LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL
MAR. 3 - MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE (MMC) RECAP
MAR. 10 - MMC GUEST (TBA)
MAR. 17 - ST. PADDY'S DAY SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Lots of recording news kicks off our first look at Local Music News in 2019...Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats have issued their fifth CD, a 23-track self-titled album that blends new studio and live tracks with updated favorites from the group's previous albums.

Eric Ian Farmer has issued his new album, called Journey of a Love So Strong (Live), an album recorded live at State College's State Theatre. The album can be purchased at the State Theatre or at Eric's live shows.

And Indiana County rockers Post Traumatik have completed recording their debut CD, called Anger Management; the album is slated for an April release.

The Altoona area music scene mourned the passing of a member and friend in December, as musician and artist Mike Long passed away unexpectedly on December 16 at age 46. Mike was a musician, but also had a passion for art in many forms. He was known for creating chainsaw art at area festivals and other events, and did paintings and drawings as well. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express our sympathies to Mike's family, friends and colleagues.
