Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 13 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We continued to clean out the mailboxes this week, and get caught up on more new local and regional recordings that have arrived recently. We debuted several new tunes, including songs from Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, Kevo Can't Dance, Grapefruit Cannonball, Dive and Fyre. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2005 live track by the Incredible Rubber Band from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from Charlottesville, Virginia's Animal Sun, and reviewed Bryan Fazio's Like a Gorilla CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS RATTIE - "Burn 'Em Down"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Issues"
MISS MELANIE & THE VALLEY RATS - "Witch & She-Devil"
DYLAN E. MILLER - "I Cried"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "You Ain't Got No Love"
KEVO CAN'T DANCE - "Garlic"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Nothing Rhymes with Orange"
THE CHROME HEARTS - "Not the Same Girl"
GRAPEFRUIT CANNONBALL - "Bang Bang Bang"
BORROWED TIME - "You're Bad News"
THE HOPE FALLACY - "Up All Night"

HOUR TWO:

THE WHATLEYS - "History Lesson"
THE SNIPPED - "Hand That Feeds"
DIVE - "Runaway"
BRYAN FAZIO - "Boogie Woogie Saturday Night"
THE SEMI-SUPERVILLAINS - "She Put A Spell on Me"
THE INCREDIBLE RUBBER BAND - "All About the Money" (live) (2005, Local Music Flashback)
ANIMAL SUN - "Enough for You" (Across State Lines)
VISION TO NONE - "Three-Thirteen"
REIGN OF Z - "Dysmorphia"
HATE GRENADE - "Temptress"
FYRE - "The Life and Times of a Demi-God"

We will again showcase more new music on our next edition, checking out more new local and regional recordings that arrived in recent days! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to discover music from another independent band or artist from outside PA!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 27 - FYRE
FEB. 3 - LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL
MAR. 3 - MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE (MMC) RECAP
MAR. 10 - MMC GUEST (TBA)

In Local Music News...

The Derek Woods Band announced some personnel departures during the past week. Drummer Justin Landers is leaving the group after five years, and mandolin and keyboard player George Hilf is departing the group after a seven-year run. Both departures are friendly ones, and the group will soon announce possible replacements. In the meantime, the Derek Woods Band will perform show dates with guest players in their roster.

Hollidaysburg-based country rockers The Chrome Hearts have changed their name with the New Year, and are now going by the handle Stephanie & the Wild Hearts.

And Felix & the Hurricanes are playing a special benefit show on Friday night, January 18, at the Unter Uns Musical Entertainment Society in Altoona. The benefit will help out one of the group's fans and friends, Patty Watt, with medical and insurance expenses after she suffered a severe leg injury recently. The benefit begins at 7 p.m., and donation is $5 at the door.
