Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 3 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

With major competition from the sporting world this week in the form of Super Bowl LIII, we again went with our "Homegrown Rocker" Super Bowl Sunday tradition and saluted the women of the local and regional music scene with our annual "Ladies of Local Music" Special! We showcased the women who write songs, sing, and play instruments on local and regional stages! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Idle Kyle, Post Traumatik, Shalom Dubas, the Stevee Wellons Band and Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats; updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 number by Clove from the archive for our "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from New York's American Pinup!

Here is this week's playlist (with spotlighted 'Lady/Ladies of Local Music' band members in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

PURE CANE SUGAR (Kate Twoey, Natalie Race and [former member] Molly Countermine) - "Leg Up" (live)
RODEO SERENADE (Kristi Branstetter, Susan Burlingame) - "Blue Moon of Kentucky/That's Alright"

JAKOB'S FERRY STRAGGLERS (Libby Eddy) - "St. Anne's Prayer"
BREE GEARHART - "Get Bright Moonlight"
ON THE BRINK (Dana Brinkel, Kirsten Leigh, Lisa Wolf) - "Tomorrow Into the Night"

HOUR TWO:

WILLOW HILL (Alexandra Naples) - "Don't Let the Door Hit Ya"
THE CHROME HEARTS (Stephanie Onkst) - "Lookin' at My Boots"
STEVEE WELLONS BAND - (Stephanie "Stevee" Wellons, Cheryl Rinovato) - "Born to Blues"

HOREHOUND (Shy Kennedy) - "The Dead Don't Lie"

We return to the mailboxes for our next program, and check out a number of new recordings that have arrived on our doorstep in recent weeks! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to air a song from an independent band or artist from outside Pennsylvania, and review The Snipped's Dadcore CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 17 - KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS
MAR. 3 - MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE (MMC) RECAP

In Local Music News...

Two months after reuniting onstage following their 25-year layoff, popular 1990s-era rock group Heaven Tonite has announced they are doing it again, but this time resurrecting their popular Killer Queen tribute show. Heaven Tonite will present Q: The Music of Queen on Friday night, March 1 at 120 Pub & Grub in Clearfield, and on Saturday night, March 2 at Blarney's Deck Stage at The Park Inn in Mechanicsburg. The same lineup from Heaven Tonite's two November reunion shows - singer/guitarist Scott Robleski, lead guitarist Matt Day, bassist Steve Leach, keyboardist Gary Bailey and drummer Jamie McGarvey - will perform the Queen tribute.

The McCaulley Project is no more, as group namesake Phil McCaulley has stepped away from the group. Several of the group's remaining members plan to continue to perform with additional members and a new name.

Several area bands and performers will donate their talents for a benefit and awareness-raising event early next month. The Greenbean Coffee House in Altoona and Family Services Incorporated will present "Singing for Survivors" on Friday, March 8 at Altoona's Bavarian Aid Society. The music will start at 5 p.m.; performing will be Michelle Barnes, Asbury Lane, This Albatross and Shallow 9. The event is free and open to the public, and any proceeds will help provide services to Blair County survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.
