Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 17 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to our guests this week, new area band Kristi Jean and her Ne'er Do Wells (http://www.kristijeanmusic.com), for stopping by and enlightening us about the new project! We met the band members and learned about their music, plus heard tunes from their forthcoming debut album, Country-billy Collision! Since three of the band members are alumni of Mike Swavely & the Chrome Magnatones, we pulled out a 2001 live number from that group for this week's "Local Music Flashback!" We also debuted a new song from Idle Kyle, updated "Local Music News," reviewed Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats' self-titled album in "The Professor's CD Corner," and paid homage to Carverton lead singer Kyle Yorlets, who lost his life in a shooting incident near his home in Nashville on February 7.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CONNER GILBERT - "Here's to the Days"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walkin' a Straight Line"
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "I'm Having a Party All By Myself"
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "My Mountain"
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "Stop, Look and Listen"
DAN STONEROOK - "Confusion"
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "Baby I Don't Care"
JEFF MAMETT - "Bing Bang Boom"
IDLE KYLE - "Grounded"

HOUR TWO:

BLACK CAT MOAN - "House of the Rising Sun"
BISCUIT JAM - "When I'm Gone"
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "I Love You a Thousand Ways"
MISS MELANIE & THE VALLEY RATS - "Demons"
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "Cryin' in the Deep Blue Sea"
MIKE SWAVELY & THE CHROME MAGNATONES - "Ghost Riders" (live) (2001, Local Music Flashback)
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "Burn That Candle"
CARVERTON - "Hollywood"

We'll get back to the mailboxes on our next program, and check out new recordings that have arrived during recent weeks! We'll debut lots of new tunes, as well as update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and feature not one, but two editions of "The Professor's CD Corner" - reviewing the Stevee Wellons Band's Born to Blues CD during the first hour, and Coleman Rigg's self-titled CD in the second hour! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (February 24) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 3 - MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE (MMC) RECAP
MAR. 10 - MMC GUEST (TBA)
MAR. 17 - ST. PADDY'S DAY SPECIAL
APR. 7 - THE SNIPPED
APR. 21 - UNPLUGGED NIGHT

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Tragic news struck the state's music scene and national headlines on February 7, as Carlisle native Kyle Yorlets, the singer and co-founder of the rock group Carverton, was shot and killed during a robbery attempt near his house in Nashville. Five youths, ranging in age from 12 to 16, have been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the incident. Kyle formed the band Carverton with guitarist Michael Curry in 2014, and the group relocated to Nashville after Kyle graduated from Belmont University in 2017. Carverton was set to release a new full-length album in March; according to Michael, they still hope to release that album at some point.

We reported last week that Dave Smith, the longtime singer for Pittsburgh-based Rush tribute Distant Signals, was parting ways with the group immediately due to health reasons. Distant Signals has found a replacement, as Mark Bailey will replace Dave as the group's frontman.

And recent "Homegrown Rocker" guest from early last year, Johnstown-based singer and songwriter Dan Stonerook, has finished work on a new album. The album is called Stable Genius, and is slated for a spring release. In addition, Dan has assembled a full band that will be hitting area stages in the spring. The group is called Wounded Moose, and features Dan on vocals, guitar and harmonica, along with George Feathers on guitar, Bill Venet Jr. on guitar and mandolin, Mike Gerber on bass and Abraham Weber on drums. Their first show will take place on Saturday morning, April 13, at 7:30 a.m. outside George's Song Shop in Johnstown for Record Store Day.
