Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 3 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we recapped last month's 23rd annual Millennium Music Conference (MMC) (www.musicconference.net), which happened Feb. 21-23 at the Park Inn by Radisson Harrisburg West hotel complex in Mechanicsburg and various showcase locations around the Harrisburg area. The "Homegrown Rocker" was again present at this year's conference, and took in some of the panels and many performances from some of the nearly 300 participating bands and artists who converged on Harrisburg during MMC weekend. We also collected some audio and comments from several of those musicians and shared their thoughts - along with their music - on this week's program. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," and with many MMC participants from outside of Pennsylvania - and even from outside of the U.S. - we stepped "Across State Lines" numerous times to share their music as well!

Here is this week's playlist (with performers' home locations in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

SILVER SCREEN (Johnstown, PA) - "Codeine"
SIX BAR BREAK (Harrisburg, PA) - "Soldier's Call"
SINGLE BY SUNDAY (Glasgow, Scotland) - "Say That You Love Me"
KALI MA AND THE GARLAND OF ARMS (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA) - "Last Rites"
ANKER (Cranbury, NJ) - "Sail Away"
ELI THE HAWK (Bucks County, PA) - "Sirens"
THE PARKERS (New York City) - "Wasted Generation"
THE RANDOM HUBIAK (Jersey Shore, NJ) - "Halcyon Daze"
THE ACCIDENTALS (Traverse City, MI) - "Parking Lot"
JUSTIN ANGELO (Lancaster, PA) - "Judge Yourself"
JAKE PULITI (Harrisburg, PA) - "Rebound"

HOUR TWO:

STERLING KOCH (Pottsville, PA) - "Taylor's Rock"
JOE NEWTZ (Beaver, PA) - "Falling In"
CHELSEA TAKAMI (Westbury, NY) - "Rolla Coas"
RUNNING LATE (Madison, NJ) - "Rodeo"
ALLWIN (Borlange, Sweden) - "Bleed on a Sunday"
ABBY LAPPEN (Claverack, NY) - "Turning the Page"
BLIND CHOICE (Scranton, PA) - "Balance on the Floor"
OBSERVE THE 93rd (Mechanicsburg, PA) - "Cartoons"
THE BAD VERBS (Tallahassee, FL) - "No More Bad Days"
AUTOPILOT (Saskatoon, Canada) - "Weightless"
JEFF MAMETT (Catawissa, PA) - "Off and Runnin'"
THE CHROME HEARTS (STEPHANIE & THE WILD HEARTS) (Hollidaysburg, PA) - "Jealous of You"

The Millennium Music Conference theme carries over into our next program. During MMC, participating musicians were invited to submit their recordings and download cards into a "Homegrown Rocker" dropbox located at the PA Musician Magazine table at the conference trade show. At the end of the trade show, we drew one CD and one download card; the creators of both won guest appearances on future editions of the "Homegrown Rocker." Chelsea Takami's download card was drawn, so she will be the guest on our April 14 program. The CD drawn was from New Jersey-based singer and songwriter Anker, and he will be the guest via phone on our next program! We'll meet Anker and learn his story, plus hear songs from his latest CD, Invite Your Demons to Tea! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," hear more music from participating MMC bands and artists, and review Jessica Graae's Blue Heart CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (March 10) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 17 - ST. PADDY'S DAY SPECIAL
APR. 7 - THE SNIPPED
APRIL 14 - CHELSEA TAKAMI (MMC Dropbox winner/download card)
APR. 21 - UNPLUGGED NIGHT

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Another area musician has punched his ticket to appear on NBC Television's talent show series "The Voice." An Altoona native now living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jimmy Mowery was selected to be a contestant on "The Voice" during the Feb. 25 airing of the program. After being selected, Jimmy was asked to do an impromptu a cappella session by judged Adam Levine and John Legend, before he picked Levine to be his coach. Jimmy will next appear on the program's 'battle round,' where the judges will determine if he then moves on to the rounds where viewer voting takes place. Prior to relocating to Myrtle Beach in 2013, Jimmy fronted Altoona area rock bands such as Past Curfew and Like A Movie.

Bassist Nick Quinn has announced that he is stepping away from full-time duties with Pittsburgh's Lovebettie and Willow Hill, to devote more time to his new role of being a father.
