Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 14 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to this week's guest via phone, Pittsburgh-based guitarist Brady Novotny (https://www.bradynovotny.com/)! After playing in bands and doing session work in the Pittsburgh scene, Brady recently issued his first-ever solo album, Passions Collide - we discussed Brady's career and music, and featured songs off the album! Along the way, we debuted new tunes from Yigga Digga and Defiant, updated "Local Music News," dug into the archive for a 2001 number by Dingleberry Shortcake for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Drew Bentley's Bold Horizon CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

TED McCLOSKEY - "Bigger Bombs"
DOPPLERPOPPINS - "Feel Free to Get Funky"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Passions Collide"
CHRIS BELL - "Paycheck to Paycheck"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Redemption's Cry"
CRAIG KELLEY - "My Increase"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Heart's Fire"
CUBBAGE - "Beautiful Night"
YIGGA DIGGA - "Secrets"

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Travelers Not Forgotten"
ANDY MOWATT'S STEELY JAM - "The Extra Dank"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Ancient Romance"
DREW BENTLEY - "Muscle Car"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Soul Harmony"
DINGLEBERRY SHORTCAKE - "Take Your Clothes Off" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
BRADY NOVOTNY - "The Journey Home"
PENSIVE FEAR - "If I Had the Chance"
DEFIANT - "4 Years for Nothing"

For our next program, we bring you the annual installment of our "Cover Song Special!" We'll explore how area bands and musicians interpret and translate musical creations by other (mostly famous) musicians! Hear area music takes on tunes from the Allman Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Patsy Cline, Buffalo Springfield, The Band, and possibly the most unusual cover of an Ozzy Osbourne classic you have ever heard! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a cover song "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to hear a cover song from an independent band or artist from outside the state! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (July 21) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

Changes are in the works for members of Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats…The group’s guitarist, Mark Ross, announced recently that he is stepping away from the group and taking a break from live performing. Mark’s last appearance with the Valley Rats will be in mid-September. Meanwhile, singer “Miss Melanie” Morrison-Zeigler and other members of the Valley Rats will be shifting gears into a more funk-based project called Miss Melanie’s Double Something, which is expected to start performing on area stages in later September.

The fourth annual Vets Fest benefit show will take place early next month. Featuring five area bands, the Vets Fest show will take place on Sunday, August 4 at the Unter Uns Musical and Entertainment Society in Altoona. Presented by the Vietnam Veterans of America Blair County Chapter 967, proceeds from the event will help out veterans in need in Blair County. The show will start at 1 p.m., and feature performances from the bands Flashpoint, Kickin,’ Skye 2.0, M.F.G. and This Albatross. Donation at the door will be $5 per person. Food, refreshments and prizes will be available.
