Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the August 25 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.
We met up with return guests on this week's program, catching up with Derek, Chris and Joe of the Derek Woods Band for a conversation recorded at the White Rabbit Cafe in downtown Greensburg! We discussed the group's latest happenings - including hearing their thoughts after returning from performing at the Woodstock 50th anniversary reunion concert at Max Yasgur's farm in New York - plus got inside and played songs from their new EP, The Question! We also debuted new songs from Mysterytrain and Black Cat Moan, updated "Local Music News," dug a live 1985 track from State College's RPM for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Nate Gates' Ghost on the River CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"
Here is this week's playlist:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Whirlwind" (live)
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "You Are My Everything"

We get back to the mailboxes on our next program, as we look to see what new local and regional recordings have arrived in recent days - meaning lots of new music will be on the menu! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside of PA! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (September 1) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...
The area music community lost another valued member during the past week, as Ken Volz passed on Tuesday morning (Aug. 20) after battling cancer. Ken was 63. During the past several decades, Ken had become a popular and beloved member of the State College music community, singing and playing guitar as a solo artist, in collaborations and with the popular band The Screaming Ducks. His image is preserved in the Inspiration Mural on Heister Street in downtown State College. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” extend our heartfelt sympathies to Ken’s surviving families, friends and the State College community.
Recent “Homegrown Rocker” band guests August Wake have announced that keyboard and trumpet player Nathan Beatty has left to band to devote time to other musical endeavors.
And after more than a year of dormancy, the word is that Altoona’s Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band is back in action and working on new music. The group has just added a new guitar player, as Ben Eberhart " also a member of Hollidaysburg foursome From Down The Road " has joined the group. _________________
