Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 8 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to this week's guest, Altoona-based singer and songwriter Conner Gilbert (www.connergilbertmusic.com)! In a conversation recorded outdoors at Penn State Altoona (where Conner is Director of Athletics Communication), Conner informed us about his latest happenings, including his brand new CD, Life In the Years, and we debuted songs from the CD! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2007 number from Bedford rockers Kun-Tajus from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed John Edwin Phelps' Good Evening Mr. Phelps CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE ROOF - "Fall in Love"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Frozen Moments"
CONNER GILBERT - "Bridges"
AUGUST WAKE - "Throne"
CONNER GILBERT - "Here's to the Days"
CARVERTON - "Zero"
CONNER GILBERT - "Tonight"
GENE THE WEREWOLF - "Love and Touch"
THE LAMPSHADES - "Forget Me Not"

HOUR TWO:

BLACK RIDGE - "Walk Out the Door"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Is What It Is"
CONNER GILBERT - "Run Away"
JOHN EDWIN PHELPS - "Civilized World"
CONNER GILBERT - "Throw It All Away"
KUN-TAJUS - "Gamblin' Man" (2007, Local Music Flashback)
CONNER GILBERT - "Hold On to That Truth"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Ancient Romance"
JEFF WEBB & THE DELECTABLE SOUND - "Running 'Round in Circles"

For our next program, we'll get back to the mailboxes to see what else new has arrived lately; thus, we'll debut a few new songs along the way. We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review White Witch's new self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (September 15) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

SEPTEMBER 22 - BLACK CAT MOAN
OCTOBER 13 - WHITE WITCH
OCTOBER 27 - HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats is morphing into a new project. Miss Melanie’s Double Something made their State College debut this past Friday night (Sept. 6) at Otto’s Pub and Brewery. Guitarist Brian Cleary has just joined singer “Miss Melanie” Morrison Zeigler and drummer Chris Coyne in the new incarnation, replacing Mark Ross.

Altoona’s Hate Grenade has announced the date and line-up for their annual “Trick or Feed” Halloween season food drive benefit show. This year’s event will happen on Saturday night, October 12, at McGarvey’s in Altoona, and will feature Hate Grenade along with Fyre, 2BB and Same Old Haunt. Donation will be $5 at the door, and anybody donating non-perishable food items will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Sheetz gift card. All food and cash proceeds will benefit the Altoona Food Bank.

And a reminder that next Friday night, September 13, will be Roadkill’s return to the live stage as part of a special benefit night for Lisa’s Ladybugs Patient Care Fund at the Slovak Club in Osceola Mills. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of their formation, Roadkill will perform with special guests Mess opening, and a jam session following Roadkill’s performance. Donation is $5 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Lisa’s Ladybugs Patient Care Fund, a non-profit organization that helps area cancer patients and their families.
