Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 20 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

It was back to the mailboxes this week, to explore new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days. We debuted more new tunes from the area music scene, including numbers from Rik Golden, The Boom Town Boys, Dave Nichols, Arte Tedesco, Bushmaster feat. Gary Brown, Defiant and Darkness On The Radio! Along the way, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2009 number from Altoona's This Calling from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from Germantown, Maryland's Science Penguin.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

PRIVATE I - "Deedles"
COASTAL REMEDY - "Cozy"
RIK GOLDEN - "Another Round Comin'"
NATE GATES - "As Long As I Got a Window"
THE BOOM TOWN BOYS - "Pray for Rain"
GABE STILLMAN - "No Time for Me"
ARTE TEDESCO - "Hurricane"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking A Straight Line"
DAVE NICHOLS - "Old Stone"
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "Cabin Fever" (live from Whiskey Ridge)
THE CHROME HEARTS (STEPHANIE & THE WILD HEARTS) - "Jealous of You"

HOUR TWO:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "From a Coma"
CHRIS BELL - "I'm Your Man"
BUSHMASTER feat. GARY BROWN - "Ajax and Hot Wax"
JEFF WEBB & THE DELECTABLE SOUND - "Can't Take the Heat"
DEFIANT - "Wendy"
THIS CALLING - "The Day I Died" (2009, Local Music Flashback)
SCIENCE PENGUIN - "Be Brave for My Fish" (Across State Lines)
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Storm of the Century"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Excommunicado"
FYRE - "Premonition"
PENSIVE FEAR - "The Forgotten Truth"

We get spooky on our next program, as we present the 2019 installment of the "Homegrown Rocker" Halloween Special! We will spotlight area bands, artists and songs with a Halloween theme or tie-in, and other creepy things may be happening during the course of the show as well! We'll also dig a Halloween-edged "Local Music Flashback" from the archive! Listen to the Halloween Special edition of the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (October 27) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

A benefit show for the U.S. Veterans 22 Motorcycle Club will take place early next month. The show will happen on Saturday night, November 2, at The Arena in State College beginning at 7 p.m. Performing will be the Donny Burns Duo, Speed Bump Willy, Wilted, Hawestone, Goatsmoker and The Unknown Legends. Donation at the door is $10 per person.

The area music scene mourns as a longtime musician from the Altoona music scene passed away last weekend. Bob Hammond passed away last Sunday, October 13, from an apparent heart attack at age 66. A guitar player and singer who loved the blues, Bob performed with numerous Altoona area bands dating back to the 1970s. Some of the groups he performed with included The Surge, Bittersweet, The Rolling Rockers, Red White & Blues and others. He also frequently sat in with the U.S. Hotel House Band during their Wednesday night jam nights at Hollidaysburg’s U.S. Hotel. Bob was a respected and influential musician, and will be missed. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” extend our heartfelt sympathies to Bob’s surviving family and friends.

And good things continue to happen for Williamsport-based blues performer Gabe Stillman. Gabe experienced the honor of sitting in on stage with blues legend Buddy Guy this past Wednesday night, Sept. 16, during Buddy’s concert at the Williamsport Community Center. Gabe and his band then headed to Chicago on Friday evening the 18th to open for Eric Gales at Buddy Guy’s Legends blues club.
