Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 8 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the mailboxes for this week's program, to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted plenty of new music, including new holiday season songs from Kenny Murdick, X-Terra and The Semi-Supervillains, plus new tunes from Arte Tedesco, Burn the Martyr and It Is Written. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1995 number from Altoona's Riot Act from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from New York City-based heavy rockers Brand Of Julez!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

PRIVATE I - "Deedles"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Is What It Is"
ARTE TEDESCO - "Lightning Strikes"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking A Straight Line"
KENNY MURDICK - "Do You Hear?"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Sizzle Into Oblivion"
ALYSSA HANKEY & JASON GAMBLE - "Love Song"
ERIC IAN FARMER - "When You Walked Into the Room"
X-TERRA - "The Animals"
GRAY BEARD - "Old Shot" (performed live on air 11/17/19)
ANATOMY OF THE SACRED - "Suicide Lake"

HOUR TWO:

AFRO N'AT - "The Wind-Up"
LENINA CROWNE - "Alcatraz to the 8th Power"
THE SEMI-SUPERVILLAINS - "Merry Xmas Everybody"
BUSHMASTER feat. GARY BROWN - "Nowhere to Stand"
BURN THE MARTYR - "March Or Die!"
RIOT ACT - "In My Soul" (1995, Local Music Flashback)
BRAND OF JULEZ - "Never Look Back" (Across State Lines)
POST TRAUMATIK - "Running Away"
IT IS WRITTEN - "Cells Mutate"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "They"
DEFIANT - "Wendy"
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Let It Go"

Guests will join us on our next program, as we welcome John Cimino and Michael Hughes into the studio! Both musicians are members of area Christmas music project Lords A Leaping, and they have been recording new songs for their fourth collection of songs, Lords A Leaping Vol. IV! We'll discuss Lords A Leaping and how the songs came together, and we'll play several of them as well! We will also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" or two from the archive, and we will review Shannon Marsyada's Oceans CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (December 15) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

The Castle Pub in Ebensburg will host a benefit concert next Saturday, December 14, for the Seedz 4 Needz Foundation, an initiative that raises funds, toys, books, blankets and other items for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The benefit will start at 5 p.m. with acoustic music from Joe Caroff, and also feature performances from Ben Dumm and the East Side Band, After The Fall and Darkness On The Radio. There is no admission charge for the benefit, but donations of money and supplies are encouraged.

The area and regional music scenes suffered the losses of musicians in recent weeks. Chuck Long, who played drums in several Centre County bands, passed away unexpectedly on November 21 at age 65. Chuck had played drums in such bands as Thief, RPM and Crossover, who opened for national country acts including Garth Brooks. And Seth Jerome, the lead guitarist and backing singer for Harrisburg area-based rock band Frayed Nott, passed away on December 3 at age 50. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” express our sympathies to the families and friends of both musicians.
