Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 15 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

In getting fired up for the Christmas season, we welcomed guests into the studio, John Cimino and Michael Hughes, members of long-running Christmas music band project Lords A Leaping! Lords A Leaping has continued to work up new music toward their fourth full-length "album" set, Lords A Leaping Vol. IV, and we discussed the new music and played some of the songs on the air! (And the musicians announced that these new songs are available for free download through Lords A Leaping's Soundcloud page, https://soundcloud.com/lords-a-leaping!) For our "Local Music Flashback" feature this week, we dug out two songs from Lords-A-Leaping's Vol. I and Vol. II sets from 2001 and 2004. We also updated "Local Music News," debuted new songs from The Austens and Mysterytrain, and reviewed Shannon Marsyada's Oceans CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Pink Parking Ticket"
CONNER GILBERT - "Bridges"
LORDS A LEAPING - "Ring It In"
AUGUST WAKE - "Come Alive"
LORDS A LEAPING - "What Gets Me"
LORDS A LEAPING - "The Bells of Christmas" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
LORDS A LEAPING - "Christmas I Remember You"
THE AUSTENS - "Light Up My Life"

HOUR TWO:

CHRIS BELL - "Paycheck to Paycheck"
BREE GEARHART - "Get Bright Moonlight"
LORDS A LEAPING - "Another Day Closer"
SHANNON MARSYADA - "You Take Me Away"
LORDS A LEAPING - "Reach Me on the Beach"
LORDS A LEAPING - "Sailing Home" (2004, Local Music Flashback)
LORDS A LEAPING - "Auld Lang Syne"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Unforgiving Tree"
MYSTERYTRAIN - "Allegro" (performed live at PPG Pavilion in Tipton 11/23/19)

Christmas will be the obvious theme of our next program, as we head toward Christmas Day with our annual Christmas Special! We will hear how the local and regional music scene celebrates Christmas, hearing area bands' and artists' original holiday songs, plus their interpretations of time-tested holiday classics! We'll debut a few new holiday numbers along the way, and we will review X-Terra's The Savior Is Born CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (December 22) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

DEC. 29 - 2019 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL
JAN. 12 - LOCAL MUSICIANS IN ACADEMIA SPECIAL
JAN. 19 - MYSTERYTRAIN
JAN. 26 - RIK GOLDEN

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Altoona-based metal rockers Fyre have announced that they are parting ways with their founding member and rhythm guitarist, Sean Stringer.

Western Pennsylvania natives now based in Nashville, Americana music duo Steel Blossoms have announced that they have been selected to open shows for country star Alan Jackson’s 2020 concert tour. The duo of fiddler, guitarist and singer Sara Zebley and singer and guitarist Hayley Prosser performed two years ago at the U.S. Hotel in Hollidaysburg.

And the Altoona area music scene mourned the loss of a longtime musician and friend of the community with the passing of Dwayne McKnight on Tuesday (Dec. 10) at age 76. Dewayne had been battling cancer. A drummer and singer, Dewayne performed with a number of bands dating back to the 1960s. Just a few of them included The Exotics and Nu Life during the 1970s, and he was an early member of The Fabulous Flashbacks. He also sang with doo-wop groups and barbershop quartets, and was the father of former Altoona area drummer John McKnight, who is now based in Atlanta. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” extend our heartfelt wishes to Dewayne’s surviving family, friends and members of the music community.
