Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 16 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We again visited the mailboxes this week to check out some more new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days. We debuted new tunes from On The Brink, Stella Ruze, Matt Tarka, The Roof, Ruckzuck, Mark Santanna, Kali Ma & the Garland of Arms, 25th Hour and Featherburn. We also spotlighted some of the many bands and artists who will be attending and performing at the 24th annual Millennium Music Conference, happening Feb. 27-29 in the Harrisburg area. And we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1993 number from Out Of The Blue from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from Saskatchewan, Canada's Autopilot, and reviewed Savage Bliss' Warning Signs CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Blend Into You"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Unforgiving Tree"
ON THE BRINK - "The Longest Day"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Frozen Moments"
STELLA RUZE - "Travel Song"
PRIVATE I - "Songs for You"
MATT TARKA - "Private School"
THE ROOF - "The Drought"
RUCKZUCK - "Infinity"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Fertile Crescent"
MARK SANTANNA - "Time Rolls"

HOUR TWO:

SILVER SCREEN - "Labelled Off"
SMALL TOWN TITANS - "Me Myself and Monster"
KALI MA & THE GARLAND OF ARMS - "Other Kind"
SAVAGE BLISS - "Rush to Justice"
25TH HOUR - "Move"
OUT OF THE BLUE - "Chameleon Sky" (1993, Local Music Flashback)
AUTOPILOT - "Weightless" (Across State Lines)
FEATHERBURN - "Concentrate"
ETERNAL FREQUENCY - "Fire"
JUG - "Travel On"

We welcome musical guests on our next program, as State College-based musical adventurers Gelatinous Cube join us in the studio! We'll meet the band members and learn their story, explore their music, and feature some new songs they have been working on! Along the way, we will dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review Jelli's Jelli with an I CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (February 23) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

A prominent reggae performer from the Pittsburgh music scene passed away on Tuesday (Feb. 11). Uzell Finney, Jr., a founding member and guitarist of Pittsburgh reggae group The Flow Band, passed after a battle with prostate cancer at age 65. Uzell helped form The Flow Band in the early 1980s, and the group became Pittsburgh’s longest-running reggae group, opening for such names as Ziggy Marley, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Jimmy Buffett. Members of The Flow Band performed a tribute to Uzell last night (Feb. 15) at Café on the Corner in Pittsburgh’s North Side.
