Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 12 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to the rebooted 2020 roster of Roadkill - Greg, Tommy and Clayton - for being our guests via phone this week! Contrary to popular belief, Roadkill wasn't quarantined from visiting our studios due to COVID-19, but because the authorities wanted to protect human beings from being infected with lousy music, terrible singing and unfunny jokes! Seriously, though, Roadkill informed us about the state of "Rot and Roll" in 2020, and we heard new songs plus time-tested Roadkill classics! Along the way, we debuted a new song from Tony Mollick, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1994 tune from former area musician Mark Wesesky and his Mark Allen Project for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Black Cat Moan's Symbols CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RIK GOLDEN - "Cresson Gutter Bums"
JUKEHOUSE BOMBERS - "Soul Revival"
ROADKILL - "Fifth on the Fourth of July"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Issues"
ROADKILL - "Shut Your Wh*** Mouth"
TONY MOLLICK - "Angelic Jam"
ROADKILL - "Wreck My Right Arm"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Scene in the Sky"

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL - "The Unknown Music Show/One Way Ticket to Loserville"
ROADKILL - "Still Alive and...Well?"
ROADKILL - "American Slob"
THE MARK ALLEN PROJECT - "Moth to a Flame" (1994, Local Music Flashback)
ROADKILL - "The Remaining Days of Zeddska the Elder Canine"

For our next program, we welcome via phone our guest, Matthew Deweese! Matthew operates the Altoona's Music Scene website (www.altoonasmusicscene.com) - we'll find out about the website and its features, the services Matt provides to the area music scene, and we'll hear music from some of Matt's musical endeavors plus performers who use and work with the Altoona's Music Scene website! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Kali Ma and the Garland of Arms' Cusp CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (April 19) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

APRIL 26 - HUXLEY (MMC drawing winner)
MAY 10 - JAKOB VLADIMIR
MAY 24 - MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

More performances, festivals and events have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation and precautions regarding large gatherings.

According to a press release issued last Sunday, Pittsburgh’s annual Deutschtown Music Festival, scheduled for mid-July, has been cancelled due to the pandemic. According to the event’s organizers, the decision was made in the interest of public health and the safety of the fans, musical artists and venue operators. The release said that the event will return in July, 2021 with a new and improved festival.

And two of Johnstown’s most popular annual events have been cancelled for this year due to the pandemic. Visit Johnstown’s executive director, Lisa Rager, announced on Thursday that both Johnstown’s PolkaFest and Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally " scheduled to take place in June " have both been cancelled due to funding difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that Visit Johnstown hopes to bring both events back in 2021.

Felix & the Hurricanes are issuing a new, limited edition, self-produced live album. The album, “All Roads Lead to Cresson,” features the Hurricanes playing a mix of their original songs and covers. Only 100 copies are being made; they can be obtained for $20 each; for mailing address to order a copy, visit the Felix & the Hurricanes Facebook page.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
