Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 31 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We again spent this week's program exploring new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days, and we debuted lots of new music! Receiving their first "Homegrown Rocker" airplay were tunes from Norman Nardini, Felix & the Hurricanes, Raven & the Wren, Dirty Mojo, Bushmaster Blues feat. Gary Brown, Kali Ma & the Garland of Arms, Johnny 5 & the Flyin' Helos, Fresh Air Man, Pieces Of Reason, Seethe and 9 Stitch Method! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 song by One Less Tear from the archive for our "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to check out music from Washington, D.C.'s Doublemotorcycle! And we reviewed Gary Carl's The Whole Nine Yards CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE ROOF - "Fall in Line"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Think You Know"
NORMAN NARDINI - "Pittsburgh, PA"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "On the Bottom" (live)
RAVEN & THE WREN - "A Healthy Dose of Misery"
JAE SMITH - "Tragically Beautiful"
GABE STILLMAN - "No Time for Me"
DIRTY MOJO - "Papa Bear"
BUSHMASTER BLUES feat. GARY BROWN - "Song for Freddie Grey"
THE DEAD END STREETS - "The Time Has Come"
KALI MA & THE GARLAND OF ARMS - "Compromiser"

HOUR TWO:

KEVIN ROY CORRELL - "Fast Jack"
RIK GOLDEN - "What They Say"
JOHNNY 5 & THE FLYIN' HELOS - "Betty Lou's Got a New Tattoo" (live)
GARY CARL - "Time Will Tell"
FRESH AIR MAN - "Super Cool"
ONE LESS TEAR (CHUCK NAVASKY, MARK SLAUGHTER & TIA McGRAFF) - "Save" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
DOUBLEMOTORCYCLE - "Evil" (Across State Lines)
PIECES OF REASON - "Bi-Polar"
SEETHE - "Circles"
HATE GRENADE - "Revelation"
9 STITCH METHOD - "Obselence"
SCARLET MOON - "Centipede"

Our next program is a special one...As announced during the week, the "Homegrown Rocker" returns to the radio station where it all began - Q94 Classic Rock in Altoona - and will now air on two stations, Q94 and the show's radio home for the past five years, 105.9 Qwik-Rock! The program debuted on Q94 as "The Backyard Rocker" on March 8, 1998 - we will celebrate the program's return to Q94's airwaves with the "Homegrown Homecoming Special!" During this edition, we will mix songs from current bands and artists of the area music scene with tunes we played on that very first "Backyard Rocker" program (and during March, 1998)! So there will be plenty of "Local Music Flashback" song features as we spotlight those songs from the first program - we will also update "Local Music News," and review Felix & the Hurricanes' All Roads Lead to Cresson double-CD live album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (June 7) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

Upcoming guests and specials:

JUNE 21 - FATHER'S DAY/FAMILY TRADITION SPECIAL
JUNE 28 - KING CATFISH
JULY 5 - FELIX & THE HURRICANES
JULY 12 - COVER SONG SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are now affecting the summer fair season. The annual Bedford County Fair, Huntingdon County Fair, Clinton County Fair, Jefferson County Fair and American Legion County Fair (formerly Cambria County Fair) have all pulled the plug on their respective events for this year.

Also cancelled for this year is the annual Bellefonte Arts & Crafts Festival slated for early August, and the entire summer concert season at Johnstown’s historic Roxbury Bandshell.

In recording news, Ted McCloskey is releasing his new album, The Lost Season Sessions Vol. I: The Big Pause. The album addresses the realities we have been experiencing during the past few months of COVID-19 and quarantines. A limited release for the album began on Friday.

Shades of June singer Ryan Krinjeck is in the process of recording his first solo album, which is expected out later this year. Three of Ryan’s original songs can currently be heard through online streaming outlets.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
