Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 14 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

This week, we returned to the show's mailboxes to explore new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days. As a result, lots of new music debuted on the "Homegrown Rocker" airwaves - we played new songs from Ted McCloskey, Steve Brosky, Alyssa Hankey, Jay Zimmerman, Nate Gates, Roc MD, Ryan Clark, Iskhonn and Phase Materia! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," stepped "Across State Lines" to check out music from Boston-based rock group Best Not Broken, and dug back to 1985 for a song from Pittsburgh's Arte Tedesco and Haywire! We also reviewed Arte Tedesco's latest album, Lightning Strikes during the first hour as the first of two editions of "The Professor's CD Corner" this week, and reviewed Rik Golden's Hold On album during the second hour!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "We See Through It"
AFRO N'AT - "The Wind-Up"
TED McCLOSKEY - "Spring Fever"
DAVE NICHOLS - "I Wanna Be Free"

ALYSSA HANKEY - "1968"
JAY ZIMMERMAN - "One Honey of a Gal"
ARTE TEDESCO - "Pittsburgh"
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "Chaos and Stardust"
AUGUST WAKE - "Throne"

RYAN CLARK - "Thunder"
HAYWIRE - "Eerie Echo" (1985, Local Music Flashback)
BEST NOT BROKEN - "Kids" (Across State Lines)
ON THE BRINK - "The Longest Day"
ISKHONN - "Meltsea"
SUICIDE PUPPETS - "World's On Fire"
PHASE MATERIA - "Between the Folds"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Hate in Me"

With our next program happening on Father's Day, we celebrate area music scene dads - along with moms, sons and daughters - on our annual "Father's Day Special!" We'll spotlight area music scene family traditions and musical families, hearing from musical parents and their kids - sometimes both in the same song! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig several "Local Music Flashback" songs from the archives (from some of the musical parents), and in "The Professor's CD Corner" review Lightning in Our Veins from Pittsburgh's Chip & the Charge Ups - featuring the father and daughter combo of Chip Dominick and Maleena! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (June 21) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

In Local Music News...

Cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic continue…This year’s 5th annual Northern Cambria County Regional Heritage Festival has been cancelled.

The City of Lock Haven announced that its annual summer concert series is proceeding, but with one location change. The concerts that had been held in Triangle Park have been moved to Main and Grove Streets in Lock Haven to enable more social distancing; 11 concerts will take place there, starting with Big Willy on Friday, June 26. Five concerts will also take place on the Floating Stage at the Corman Amphitheater, beginning with the Jeremy Edge Project on Sunday, June 28. All concerts will begin at 6 p.m., and admission to all of these concerts is free.

In other local music news, the Johnstown-based band Wounded Moose has been selected to perform at Pittsburgh’s Millvale Music Festival, which had been postponed until August 9 due to COVID-19. The group will open that event starting at 12 noon. Wounded Moose is also currently seeking a new drummer.

Members of area country group Chris Woodward & Shindiggin’ have completed work on a new song and video about a well-known area soundman. Written by Chris Woodward and Mike McCartney and produced by Michael Hillegas, the song, called “Ritt’s Drunk Again,” celebrates longtime area sound engineer Jeff “Ritt” Rittenhouse, and his rising celebrity status on social media via a series of memes, cartoons and photoshopped images captioned with the words “Ritt’s Drunk Again.” The accompanying video shows a succession of many of these Facebook images.

And some news regarding recent show guests, Pittsburgh’s Chip & the Charge Ups, featuring the father and daughter duo of Chip and Maleena Dominick. Maleena is in the process of recording her first solo album. The album is being recorded at Innovation Studios in Steubenville, Ohio. Chip & the Charge Ups have also released a new video and song in time for Father’s Day; Chip wrote the song, “One Black Balloon,” in memory of his father. The video for the song, shot last fall, is available for viewing through Chip & the Charge Ups’ Facebook page.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
