Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 21 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

With this week's show happening on Father's Day, we celebrated area music scene dads...as well as moms, sons and daughters, and family traditions - on our annual Father's Day Special! We focused on area music scene dads, but also spotlighted area music scene families, even playing a few tunes where two generations of the same family are represented! We also updated "Local Music News," and reviewed Lightning in Our Veins, the latest album from Pittsburgh dad Chip Dominick, his daughter Maleena and their band, Chip & the Charge Ups, in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

In Local Music News...

As live music gradually begins to emerge from the COVID-19 shutdown, some events have been announced for later this summer and fall.

The inaugural Homegrown Music Festival will take place on Saturday, August 29, at People's Natural Gas Park in Johnstown. The event will start at 2 p.m., and feature performances from six Johnstown area bands, including Black Cat Moan, The Ne'er Do Wells, Afro N'at, Even the Odds, Van Waylon and the Derek Woods Band. Local vendors will be available. Tickets to the concert are $10 per person, and profits will be given to the Community Foundation to support local charities.

And Mr. Smalls Theatre in Pittsburgh's Millvale section will host the annual Yinzfest 2020 music festival on Saturday, August 15. This festival will feature 40 musical acts on four stages, plus poetry, visual arts, comedy, magic, activities, local vendors, and more. Advance tickets are available for $20 per person.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
