Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 20 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

We spoke with a guest via phone this week. Pittsburgh's Maleena made her second guest appearance on the program this year (after appearing with her father's band, Chip & the Charge Ups, in early April). She has just released her first solo album, Bruises to Prove It, and we discussed the album and her musical endeavors, plus played tunes from the album! We also debuted new tunes from Walkney, Tupelo, Nag Champions and Silver Lights, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1993 tune from Altoona's Freeform from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Anti-Corn League's Love It or Leave It CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "Halfway Man"
FADED FLOWERS - "Unkind"
MALEENA - "I Can't Find You"
WALKNEY - "Wah"
MALEENA - "On the Run"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Feel Electricity"
MALEENA - "Homesick"
BREE GEARHART - "Dark Cloud"
TUPELO - "When Will It Be Tomorrow"
DYLAN MILLER - "Favorite Distraction"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Broken Arrow"

HOUR TWO:

JEFF WEBB & THE DELECTABLE SOUND - "Can't Take the Heat"
DUMM - "Lovely Lonely"
MALEENA - "Something More"
ANTI-CORN LEAGUE - "My Brain to Be"
MALEENA - "Flashbacks"
FREEFORM - "Like She Was" (1993, Local Music Flashback)
MALEENA - "Rest of My Life"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Marshmellow Overcoat"
SILVER LIGHTS - "Expendable" (acoustic)

Another guest joins us on our next program, as Altoona native and Pittsburgh-based musician and composer Don Hughes returns to the show! Don has just issued his third album, A Hero's Journey, an ambitious album where he attempts to tell a complete story using just music, without singing or lyrics! Don will share insights on how he created the album, and we'll hear tracks from it! We will also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Jae Smith's Murmur CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (September 27) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

Upcoming guests and specials:

OCTOBER 25 - HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
NOVEMBER 29 - VINYL VAULT SPECIAL

In Local Music News...

Due to concerns and restrictions stemming from COVID-19, the annual “Patched Together: A Day of Music for the Healing Patch” event, usually scheduled for November, has been cancelled for this year. Instead of the live public event, Patched Together organizers are instead staging several online performances during October to raise donations for the Healing Patch, which provides counseling and mentoring services for young people who have experienced the loss of family members and loved ones. Groups that have been confirmed for these performances thus far include Matt Otis & the Sound and Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors. More details will be announced in coming weeks.

An iconic live music venue in the Lancaster area has closed its doors, at least for the time being. The Chameleon Club closed their current location at 223 North Water Street in Lancaster. The venue first started running live music in 1985, and has hosted many local, regional and touring national performing acts. According to a message on the venue’s Facebook page, The Chameleon plans to reopen at a new location in 2021, and stage shows that were postponed from this year due to COVID-19. The message told readers to keep checking back with the venue’s website and Facebook page for further updates.

The location for next month's inaugural “Homegrown Music Festival” in Johnstown has been changed. The October 17 event has been moved from People's Natural Gas Park to the Lorain Borough Park in Johnstown. The event still kicks off at 2 p.m., and will feature performances from Black Cat Moan, The Ne'er Do Wells, Afro N'at, Even the Odds, Van Waylon and the Derek Woods Band. Admission to the event is $10 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies to support local charities.

Ted McCloskey has announced the release date of his second album inspired by the events of this year. The new album, The Lost Season Sessions, Vol. 2, will be released on October 2. Released earlier this year, his album The Lost Season Sessions, Vol. 1: The Big Pause addressed Ted’s experiences, perceptions and feelings as he dealt with COVID-19 related issues such as quarantining, isolation, not being able to earn an income and more. Ted earlier said he would continue to issue albums for each “lost season” until such lost seasons occurred no more.
