Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 10 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We welcomed our first musical guest of the New Year, as Bedford-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and storyteller Coltt Winter Lepley joined us in the studio! We explored Coltt's story and career, discussed his creative process and philosophies on songwriting, storytelling and folk music, and tried to solve world problems. Coltt also brought along a homegrown guitar (crafted by local luthier Mike Shaffer of Salemville) and performed a few of his original songs live for us! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Brother Jack, Buckskin Whiskey, Bret Alexander & Nyke Van Wyk, and the new song "SOS 2020," featuring members of 27 bands and 60 artists from the Pittsburgh area music scene, raising funds and awareness for struggling local live music venues! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1981 song by State College's Tahoka Freeway from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed The Jeremy Edge Project's self-titled album in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NATE GATES - "Everybody Sees the Brick Wall Coming But Nobody's Stopping the Train"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Home"
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "The Bandito"
BROTHER JACK - "Pancakes"
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "City Livin'" (played live on the air)
(VARIOUS ARTISTS) - "SOS 2020"
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "A Tear Addressed to You"
BUCKSKIN WHISKEY - "Roll On"

HOUR TWO:

BRET ALEXANDER & NYKE VAN WYK - "Fear of Falling" (live)
THE CLARKS - "Madly in Love at the End of the World"
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "Christian the Homeless Man" (played live on the air)
THE JEREMY EDGE PROJECT - "Hot Lava"
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "God Bless the Workin' Man" (played live on the air)
TAHOKA FREEWAY - "Light Rain" (1981, Local Music Flashback)
COLTT WINTER LEPLEY - "Crack Cocaine"

For our next program, we will introduce a new special we have not attempted before, the "Songs About Pennsylvania Special!" We'll explore songs created by local and regional PA musicians about the Keystone State! We'll hear songs in a variety of flavors about the state, its history, people, landmarks, folklore and legends! We'll also update "Local Music News," and dig a "Local Music Flashback" or two from the archive! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (January 17) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

FEBRUARY 7 - LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL

In Local Music News...

Guitarist DJ Carothers has decided to step away from Pittsburgh rock group Chip & the Charge Ups, citing other life priorities. DJ had also played guitar in frontman Chip Dominick’s previous band, Chip DiMonick. Chip & the Charge Ups are now seeking a replacement guitarist.

Mysterytrain is continuing work on their first studio album. According to group founder, singer and guitarist Dan Klock, the album is currently being mixed by the group’s sound engineer, Dave Muddiman. The album will feature a number of new songs, plus a few staple tunes that the group has performed live for some time. The album is expected to be released in spring or summer. Mysterytrain is holding off on organizing any festival events until circumstances allow for such events to be safely held.

A popular Harrisburg area musician passed away last weekend. Chad Salvaggio, the drummer for the Nate Myers Band, passed away last Sunday at age 53. Chad had played in several blues and jazz projects, and was also a drum instructor.

And the new song to help out live music venues that we told you about last week is now available. Members of 27 Pittsburgh area bands plus 60 other artists contributed to the song “SOS 2020,” which is raising awareness and funds for the Save Our Stages effort to save live music venues. The song was officially released on Friday (Jan. 8), and is available for purchase through iTunes and can be streamed on digital platforms. For more information about the song and project visit the website www.sos2020pgh.org.
