Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 17 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We celebrated song creations by Pennsylvania bands and artists about the Keystone State this week on our first-ever "Songs About Pennsylvania" Special! We heard songs about (or referencing) the state and its history, people, locations and landmarks, folklore, legends and more! We touched on a number of musical flavors, spanning rock, blues, country, folk, surf-rock, bluegrassand even a polka! Along the way, we dug out two "Local Music Flashbacks" relating to Pennsylvania - a 1991 number from the Badlees during the first hour, and a railroad ode by local country duo Bill & Roy during the second hour! And we also updated "Local Music News."

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RIK GOLDEN - "Cresson Gutter Bums"
MOUNTAIN ROAD - "Pennsylvania Channel Cats"
JACK SERVELLO - "Raystown Ray"
MATT AQUILINE & THE DEAD END STREETS - "Pennsylvania"
NATE GATES - "Ghosts on the River"
THE BADLEES - "Diamonds in the Coal" (1991, Local Music Flashback)
JOHN "JT" THOMPSON - "Down at Daniel's"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Stoney Creek Rag"
SHANE SPEAL & THE SNAKES - "Rehmeyer's Hollow"
MAMA CORN - "The Hanging of Alfred Andrews"
ZUPE - "Punxsutawney Phil Polka"

HOUR TWO:

THE CLARKS - "Cigarette"
DONNIE IRIS - "Pittsburgh Made"
VAN WAGNER - "Prince Farrington"
VAN WAGNER - "Down to Schuylkill County"
VAN WAGNER - "Shikellamy"
CHUCK OWSTON - "Wilmerding Blues"
BILL & ROY - "The Old K-4" (1990, Local Music Flashback)
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Goin' to Williamsport"
THE LEGENDARY HUCKLEBUCKS - "B-Movie"
ARTE TEDESCO - "Pittsburgh"
NORMAN NARDINI - "Pittsburgh, PA"
CEANN - "Pittsburgh Makes Me Drunk"
UNHURRIED WAYS - "Almost a Nanty Glo Waltz"
JESSICA ILLUZZI - "Pennsyltucky Wings"

We go back to the mailboxes on our next program to explore numerous new local and regional recordings that have arrived during recent weeks, meaning we will be hearing lots of new music! Expect to hear songs from former Harpo guitarist John Hahn, Black Ridge, Van Wagner, Hedgerow Red, Mediocre Gatsby, 30 Days of Pain and more! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to check out music from an independent band or artist from outside PA, and review JS Blues' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (January 24) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

In Local Music News...

The 25th annual Millennium Music Conference & Showcase in Harrisburg is still on for this year, but will have a different look. The conference will take place February 25-27 at the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel & Conference Center in downtown Harrisburg. In light of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the conference will follow the current Pennsylvania health and safety guidelines to offer a hybrid event including a virtual and in-person conference and showcase. Plans for a limited physical event will be provided in further updates as more information becomes available. For more information about the conference, visit the website www.musicconference.net.

Organizers of the annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival have begun planning for this year's event, which is scheduled to happen June 17-19 at Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork. According to festival organizer and founder Ron Kodish, a COVID-19 safety plan is being developed for this year's festival in the event that it is needed, and advance tickets for the festival should be available shortly. Some 22 different groups and performers are scheduled to play the festival, including nationally-established bluegrass names like The Hillbenders, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike and Fireside Collective, as well as local and regional performers such as The Hillbilly Gypsies, Mama Corn, Colebrook Road, Huntingdon native Doug Forshey, The Jakob's Ferry Stragglers, Van Wagner and many others. Proceeds from the festival benefit the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania.

And sad news emerged from the area music scene this past week with the passing of musician Aaron Bossinger on Friday (January 15). A Mifflin County native, Aaron was a singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist. He was a member of the State College-based alternative rock group Relic Hearts, and also did solo and studio work in other projects. He was well-liked on the State College area music scene, and will be missed.
