Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 16 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

Thanks to this week's guest, Pittsburgh area harmonica, blues and folk artist Charlie Barath, for joining us via phone! We discussed Charlie's new full-length album, Just Me and My Friends(s) and heard songs from it, and also talked about Charlie's music, career and thoughts on Hohner harmonicas! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2009 number from Four Day Crawl from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Ted McCloskey's The Lost Season Sessions Vol. 3 - Waiting for the Cavalry album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 051621.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BLACK CAT MOAN - "Is What It Is"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Beale Street" (live)
CHARLIE BARATH - "Mississippi Bound"
TONY MOLLICK - "Angelic Jam"

CHARLIE BARATH - "One Way Gal"
FOUR DAY CRAWL - "Nothing Left to Call My Own" (2009, Local Music Flashback)
CHARLIE BARATH - "High Ball and a Covered Dish"

We'll get caught up on some more new music on our next program, and check out new recordings that have arrived in recent days. We will also preview some upcoming area concert events. And as always, we'll update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state! And we'll review not one, but TWO albums in "The Professor's CD Corner" this week - reviewing Memory Collector's Future Eyes album during the first hour, and Hanna Barakat's Siren album during the second hour! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (May 23) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

In Local Music News...

Pittsburgh’s Miss Freddye and her band will headline this year’s annual Westsylvania Jazz & Blues Festival, happening on Saturday, May 29 in downtown Indiana. The festival returns after taking last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other performers on the bill include Pittsburgh’s Jimmy Adler Band, Chicago-based jazz quartet Echoes, Black Cat Moan, the Miles Davis tribute Ferguson Nonette: Birth of the Cool, Don Aliquo, Sr., and Don Aliquo, Jr. with the Forest Hills High School Combo. The music kicks off at 11 a.m. Food and refreshment vendors will be available, and admission to the festival is free.

And four established Altoona area musicians recently assembled a new jazz-flavored band project. Uptown Jazz features Dave Villani on keys and vocals, Erika Marino-Ankeny on vocals, multi-instrumentalist Randy Rutherford and drummer Paul Turner. The group mixes jazz flavors with some pop, blues and soul elements. Their next show happens May 29 at the U.S. Hotel in Hollidaysburg.
