Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 4 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

For the 4th of July holiday, we took it easy (sort of) and spotlighted new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days, and even broke out some July 4/Independence Day-themed area songs! We debuted new tunes from The Jaded Lips, Supermonkey, Beauty Slap, Madison Ryan and The Spyders (of Harrisburg). We also dug into the archive for a 1995 tune by The Syn D'Cats for this week's "Local Music Flashback" and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Port Isabel, Texas' Sun King Rising (the brainchild of New Castle native John Blangero). And we presented TWO editions of "The Professor's CD Corner" this week, reviewing Van Wagner's Rap Is Folk CD during the first hour, and Betty Jo Rockwell's All for Love during the second hour! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 070421.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ROADKILL - "Fifth on the 4th of July"

THE JADED LIPS - "Jealous Eyes"

SUN KING RISING - "Free Will in China Blue" (Across State Lines)
INSIDE OUT - "The Darkness"
SUICIDE PUPPETS - "Blacken Days"
HATE GRENADE - "Temptress"

We'll have a musical guest on our next program, as we present an interview with renowned Danville-based singer, songwriter and educator Van Wagner! In a conversation recorded on site during last month's Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival at Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork, Van will talk about his music career, his fascination with Pennsylvania history, his recently-released rap album Rap Is Folk, his upcoming bluegrass album and much more! Van will play a couple of songs live for us, we'll hear some of his recorded music, and we'll also feature excerpts from Van's special "North of 80" workshop and open jam that he presented during Smoked Country Jam! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" and review Charlie Barath's Just Me and My Friend(s) album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (July 11) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

The State College music and radio community was saddened this past week with the passing of noted personality “Cosmic” Ray Cromie on Tuesday. Ray was a fixture on Penn State college radio stations for more than four decades, and hosted his “Avant Garde” program, which showcased experimental music and spoken word creations that were off the beaten path from mainstream commercial music. He also performed his own experimental music in various music art projects as well.
