Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 11 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

Thanks to this week's guest, Danville-based singer, songwriter, educator and Pennsylvania historian Van Wagner (www.vanwagnermusic.com) for sharing his music and insight with us! During an interview recorded during last month's annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival near Cross Fork, PA, Van talked about his career, his music, and his passion for Pennsylvania and its history. Van played a couple of songs live for us during the interview, and we also heard songs from his two most recent albums, Rap Is Folk and Family Guitar - plus, we presented live footage from Van's "North of 80" performance workshop during Smoked Country Jam as well! Along the way, we debuted a new song from Colebrook Road, updated "Local Music News," pulled an early 1990s tune from Harrisburg's Stone Soup from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" twice to hear songs from Huntingdon County native/Nashville-based Doug Forshey and Binghamton, New York area bluegrassers Bug Tussle, and reviewed Charlie Barath's Just Me and My Friend(s) album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 071121.)

In Local Music News...

The organizers for the annual Pickin’ for Wishes bluegrass festival fundraiser for the Make A Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia recently announced that the 8th annual event, which usually takes place at the Cresson Sportsmen's Club, has been postponed until 2022, due to continued concerns for Wish families and children because of COVID-19. As Make A Wish grants wishes for children with life-threatening conditions, the organization does not want to put Wish children at risk by staging the event this year.

A new band project made their onstage debut during last weekend's Wam Bam Mountain Jam event near Port Matilda. The Stiffs feature several well-known names of the central PA music scene; including John McKelvey, Lane Williamson, Dave Ebersole, Rick Guyer, Craig Albright and Ryan Clark. The group's next scheduled appearance will be on August 1 during the outdoor jam event at Altoona's Unter Uns Musical & Entertainment Society.

And the area music scene was again shocked and saddened by the loss of one of its members. Tim Michrina, recently the guitar player for the band The Sitch, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (July 6) at age 31. Originally from Johnstown, Tim enjoyed the arts and playing guitar, and was also a teacher in the Northern Cambria School District.
