Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 24 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We were originally scheduled to have band guests on this week's program, but when unforeseen developments within the band forced Altoona rock band legends The Front to cancel their farewell show, their appearance on the program was cancelled. Instead, we again placed the spotlight on new music that has arrived from the area music scene in recent days. We debuted new tunes from The Semi-Supervillains, A.D. 2020, 7 Mile Run, Kevo Can't Dance, Infused, The Mesos and Anger Box! In addition, we paid homage to area musician Jack Fitzpatrick (see "In Local Music News" below) with a special song he wrote, sung and played guitar on, and we remembered Walter Wright with a special double-shot featuring tunes he sang on with Skell and (kaj). We also dug into the archive for a 1990 tune by The Front, stepped "Across State Lines" to hear from Austin, Texas' Hanna Barakat, and reviewed Casey Walton's This Town album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 102421.)

In Local Music News...

The much anticipated final farewell concert by Altoona rock legends The Front is again no more. The group announced this past week that due to “recent, uncontrollable developments and circumstances within the band,” the show has been cancelled. The event was to take place on November 6 at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Anybody who had already purchased tickets to the concert will receive a full refund back to the credit card the tickets were originally charged to.

The local and regional music scenes were again saddened by the loss of musicians and friends during the past week...Walter Wright passed on Tuesday at age 43 after battling illness. Walter was the frontman for Pittsburgh heavy metal powerhouse Skell, and previously fronted western PA hard rockers (kaj). He also was involved in the Rock For Life concert series, which raises money every year for helping sick children in western PA.

John “Jack” Fitzpatrick passed on Wednesday at age 75. Jack was a longtime musician who had sung and played guitar with several bands over the years, including Jack and the Back Country, Jack and the Country Gentleman and Jack’s Crossfire Band. He was also a retired U.S. Navy veteran with 20 years of service, including serving in Vietnam and in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
