Hello Everyone,

In Local Music News...

ArtsAltoona has announced that they will be hosting their first Open Mic Night. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Blank Canvas area at the ArtsAltoona Center. Performers of all types are welcome, including comedy, music, poetry, storytelling and additional talents. Participants will have time for three songs, or 15 minutes, whichever comes first. The ArttsAltoona Center is located at 2212 6th Avenue in Altoona, at the site of the former Simpson-Temple United Parish facility.

After more than two decades of entertaining audiences, Pittsburgh-based swing and rock ensemble Neon Swing X-perience has announced that they will be taking an indefinite break so that group members can pursue other projects. Formed in 1998, Neon Swing X-perience has performed throughout Pennsylvania and across the country, including shows at New York's Central Park, The Derby in Hollywood, the Viva Las Vegas Festival in Las Vegas, and numerous Pittsburgh area locations. The group's final show will be next July at the Westmoreland Arts and Heritgae Festival near Greensburg.

And the Pittsburgh music scene mourns the passing of one of its leading ladies of the blues. Jill West passed away on Thanksgiving Day after a battle with cancer at age 68. Jill was a popular and well-respected performer who fronted several groups through the years, most recently Jill West and Blues Attack, who issued several albums. Off stage, Jill worked as a pediatric nurse at Pittsburgh’s UPMC Children’s Hospital.
