Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 2 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

When illness sidelined our originally-scheduled guest for this week's program, we instead returned to the mailboxes to check out new recordings that arrived from the area music scene during the holiday season. We debuted new songs from Shawn Diveglia, The Semi-Supervillains, Welcome 2 Earth, Zach Wade & the Good Grief, Six Bar Break, Infused, Alexia Christian, Bastard Bearded Irishmen and The 27 Club. We also updated "Local Music News" and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear new music from Missouri bluegrass and Americana artists The HillBenders. We also paid homage to Allan "Skip" Calhoun with a 2004 song by Skip and his local Rolling Stones tribute group, Jumpin' Jack Flash, for a "Local Music Flashback." And we also paid tribute to guitarist Jim Fagan of Savage Bliss with a song from that group as well as a new track from Jim's new EP with Michael Troy, released before his passing in late December. (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 010222.)

Our next program will introduce our first guest of 2022, as Bedford-based singer and songwriter Devin Sherman joins us in the studio! In Local Music News...

The Central PA Music Hall Of Fame has announced their 2022 Inductees: those inductees are Live, the Del McCoury Band, Les Brown, The Emperors, the Pixies Three and Third Stream. The induction ceremony and Central PA Music Awards will take place March 24 at the Hershey Theatre

The People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts recently announced that the event will return this year, but at a different location. The festival will take place from July 14 through 17 at Grange Park in Centre Hall. The organizers cited the growing size of the festival as a factor in their decision to relocate from the former site at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg.

Fire damaged the new facility of HHG Drums in Hollidaysburg on December 10. According to owner Sam Thurau, the new shop is not a total loss, and will be rebuilt. HHG will continue to use their existing current shop facility to manufacture drums until the new facility is ready to use again. Damages from the fire were more than $10,000, and a GoFundMe campaign has been started to raise funds to assist in the rebuilding of the new shop.

Three new albums from the local and regional music scene are being released this week. The Snipped will officially release their new CD, called Tales From the Workbench, this Saturday with a special CD release event at McGarvey’s in Altoona. Performing there will be The Snipped, along with The Flannels and X’s For Eyes. Matt Otis & the Sound have released their brand new album called Here Not Here. The album is now available on digital platforms, and hard copy CD’s can be obtained from Matt directly. And Joshua Carns, the guitarist for the Derek Woods Band, has issued his solo album called Flamingo, which can be obtained through Joshua’s Bandcamp page.

Black Ridge, David Granati’s Academy of Rock, Sahayra, Another Day and Down N’Dirty are some of the names donating talents during a benefit concert for drummer and percussionist David Blake, who recently underwent surgery for tongue and neck cancer. The Road to Recovery Concert will take place on Jan. 16 at Peppers N’at in Braddock.

And the area and regional music scenes mourn the losses of two musicians in recent days. Locally, Allan "Skip" Calhoun passed away on December 12. He was 69. Skip endeared himself to area music fans as “Skip Stone” in local Rolling Stones tribute group Jumpin' Jack Flash and Dead Flowers, plus a few other projects. And from the Harrisburg area, Jim Fagan, the guitarist for Savage Bliss and several other band projects, passed away unexpectedly this past Wednesday (Dec. 29) at age 51. We will feature tributes to both musicians later on this week’s program.
