Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 23 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week was our latest periodic visit to the show's mailboxes to explore new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! As always, that resulted in the debut of lots of new music on the program! We gave first plays to tunes from Steve Treado & Natty Lou Race, Kevin Correll, Bill Dann & Jack Servello, Back Alley Sound, The Dead End Streets, $illoet, Zac Grace, Blind Choice, Coffee With Lions and...Candlelight Red! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2004 tune from Danville rockers Searching For Gladys from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to discover music from Columbia, South Carolina's Brandy & the Butcher, and reviewed Mark DeRose and the Dreadnoughts' In Search of the Good Days album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 012322.)

In Local Music News...

Pennsylvania-bred national recording group Halestorm endured a close call this past week when their tour bus caught fire. The incident happened early on Thursday morning outside the Hilton Garden Inn in Worcester, Massachusetts as the group was sleeping inside the hotel. The fire began at around 3 a.m., and local firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames, which were confined to the bus’ bunk area. Nobody was injured, but the group did lose a few items. Their guitars and luggage were rescued from the fire, and Halestorm went on to perform their concert with Evanescence later that night at the DCU Convention Center in Worcester.

In an official announcement made this past week, the organizers of the annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg said that the conference has suspended operations and will not be producing their event in 2022. The announcement cited challenges presented by the ongoing COVID-19 situation as the reason for the decision. The announcement gave no indication regarding the future of the conference, which usually takes place in late February.

The dates have been announced for the third annual Mass N The Grass Music & Arts Festival. This year's festival will happen from August 5th through 7th at the Sinking Valley Fairgrounds in Skelp (north of Altoona). Musicians, vendors and volunteers who wish to be a part of the festival may contact the event organizers through the event's website and Facebook page.

Homer City-based rockers Post Traumatik has had another of their songs selected for an upcoming horror movie. The group’s song “Flight of the Mothman” has been chosen to be included in the upcoming Joshua Brucker film update of “Mothman,” currently in pre-production. Post Traumatik’s song “Running Away” was used in the 2019 horror film “Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire.”

The Derek Woods Band has been selected to perform live at Gobbler’s Knob, leading up to Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog’s annual weather prediction, capping the 135th annual Groundhog Day Celebration. The group will perform both in Barclay Square in Punxsutawney on Tuesday, February 1 (Groundhog Eve), as well as at Gobbler’s Knob between the early morning fireworks and the official appearance of Punxsutawney Phil on February 2, Groundhog Day. Other groups performing at Barclay Square on Groundhog Eve include 8 Track Daze and Killin’ Time. The Groundhog Day Celebration runs from January 29 through Groundhog Day, February 2.

And a member of Williamsport-based rock group Clyde Frog (whose music has been played on the “Homegrown Rocker” in recent years) made her network television debut last week. Singer Tess Marshall made that debut last Monday night on NBC Television’s drama series “Ordinary Joe.”
