Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 13 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

On this night, the "Homegrown Rocker" was up against some major competition from the sports world. So while the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams were doing battle on the gridiron to decide the NFL championship, we countered with the annual "Women of Area Music Special," as we saluted the women who create music on area stages and in recording studios! We filled this week's two hours with spotlights on area music women who write and sing songs, play guitars, basses, keys, drums, violins, horns and more! Along the way, we debuted new tunes from the Big Fat Meanies, Ma'am and Eternal Frequency, plus updated "Local Music News," dug a 2002 tune by Juiced from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Austin, Texas' Hanna Barakat (with Altoona's Lisa Fazenbaker on drums), and reviewed Bree Gearhart's Camp Lights album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 021322.)

In Local Music News...

Just days after the highly-successful debut of the “Classic Vinyl Concert Series” at the State Theater of Johnstown, organizers have revealed the next classic vinyl albums they will perform live. In a video message, musical director Jeffrey Webb announced that the Fab Four will be the focus, as the next concert will feature performances of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Abbey Road” albums. For the debut last weekend (Feb. 5), an all-star cast of 17 Johnstown area musicians performed Stevie Wonder’s 1976 double-album set “Songs in the Key of Life.” The date of the follow-up event will be Saturday evening, November 5 at the State Theater. Tickets for that show will go on sale this Friday, February 18.

Images Of Eden has announced that they are hitting the recording studio to record two follow-up releases to their 2021 album “Angel Born.” The two releases tie together as a two-part concept and will be recorded simultaneously. The first part will be an EP, with another full-length album to follow; both will be released on Pavement Entertainment. No official release dates have been announced yet, but the group is hoping for a late summer release for the EP.

And Altoona-based heavy metal rockers SamarA have found their new frontman. The group announced that Eric Pensyl will take over lead vocal duties, replacing former frontman Nigel Dirt. SamarA’s next scheduled performance will be as part of the “Remembering Michael 2 Fists” event at McGarvey’s in Altoona on April 8.
