Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 15 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week, we welcomed into the studio three members of Altoona-based "dadcore" punk rockers The Snipped! Punk-rocking dads Mike Wax, Frank Conrad and Justin Burket updated us on The Snipped's career and happenings, and we discussed and checked out songs from the group's second album, Tales From the Workbench! We also debuted new songs from Coffee With Lions, The Stone Eye and The Heathen Parade, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2012 number by Altoona's Without Zerb from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Abstentious' Without A Moral Compass album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 051522.)

In Local Music News...

Area musician Greg Folsom has hooked up with another band. Greg announced this past week that he has become the new lead guitar player for Go Go Retro, and will be splitting time between this new endeavor and playing bass with State College-based party band favorites My Hero Zero. Formed as an offshoot project of eastern PA-based party band juggernaut Go Go Gadjet, Go Go Retro specializes in popular music of the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and performs throughout the eastern seaboard.

And young Williamsport-based bass player and jazz musician Gabriel Severn will be heading to Vienna, Austria next month as the U.S. winner of the Joe Zawinul Foundation for Achievement’s “Z” Award. The “Z” Award is given annually to a music student from Austria and a music student in the U.S. for demonstrating exceptional musical talent and passion. Gabriel, 17 years old and a member of Central PA-based jazz fusion trio Teen Town, will spend 3 weeks during June in Vienna, studying at the Joe Zawinul Musikschule, visiting historical and cultural sights, and performing at Viennese festivals and events. Joe Zawinul was a founding member of renowned jazz-fusion band Weather Report, and composed some of the best-known standards in jazz, including “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” and “Birdland.”
