Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 24 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week, we presented the 2022 installment of our annual "Cover Song Special," as we checked out how area bands and performers interpret and cover the music of other (mostly famous) bands and artists! We heard covers from a myriad of area performers, as they covered and interpreted other musicians' creations with their own styles and flavors! Along the way, we debuted new covers from Mark DeRose and the Dreadnoughts, Gabe Stillman, Antonio Andrade, Ride The Song, Joe Konior, Hot Dog Boy, The Snipped and Pierce Dipner; and we also updated "Local Music News." (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 072422.)

In Local Music News...

It’s on again…The annual Vets Fest event, which had been suddenly canceled last week, is now apparently back on. An announcement on social media this past week said that the event will take place on Sunday, August 14 at the Unter Uns Musical & Entertainment Society in Altoona. At least two of the initial bands scheduled, Felix & the Hurricanes and Autumn Rising, will be performing, with the rest of the performance slate to be announced. Sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Blair County Chapter 967, Vets Fest will feature an afternoon of music from area bands and artists while raising funds and awareness for area veterans and veterans' issues.

Four and a half months after performing reunion shows, The Badlees have announced more performances and are working on a new recording to be released before year's end. The group will be performing at XL Live in Harrisburg on Sunday, September 25, and will be playing their 1995 River Songs album in its entirety during that performance. The Jellybricks and the Martini Bros. will open that show. The Badlees are also working on new music, which may be released as an EP or full-length album before the end of this year.

Badlees singer and multi-instrumentalist Bret Alexander's song "We Will" was recently included in a Hurricane Agnes Flood documentary that debuted in northeast PA. The documentary marks the 50th anniversary of what was one of the largest natural disasters in U.S. History, that caused extensive damage throughout Pennsylvania. The documentary may be available online in the future.

And two new area band projects have been announced...Members of Small Town Horror Show have formed a new Type O Negative tribute project. Called NoneMoreNegative, the group will play its debut performance on October 29 at McGarvey's in Altoona, opening for Harrisburg Pantera tribute group Penntera.

And former members of Naildriver and This Calling have merged to form a new project called A Starlite Gray. That group will feature former Naildriver frontman Matt Watson and drummer Andy Melusky, as well as former This Calling guitarist Joe Neary. The group is creating song material and their style will be in a metalcore direction.
