Jeremiah Green, Modest Mouse drummer, R.I.P.

Jeremiah Green, the founding drummer for the rock band Modest Mouse, has died just days after the band announced he had been diagnosed with cancer. He was 45.

"Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He laid down to rest and simply faded out," according to a statement posted Saturday on the band's social media accounts. “Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love.”

Green was barely in his teens when he joined the newly formed Modest Mouse, which featured singer-guitarist Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Judy among others. Modest Mouse was originally based in the Seattle suburb Issaquah and later relocated to Portland. Its name originates from a passage by Virginia Woolf, who once described everyday individuals as “modest mouse-coloured people."

Influenced by Talking Heads and XTC among others, Modest Mouse debuted in 1996 with the album “This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About” and built a substantial critical following before having mainstream success with their fourth release, “Good News for People Who Love Bad News,” and the singles “Float On” and “Ocean Breathes Salty.”

Green had a breakdown around the time of “Good News for People Who Love Bad News,” released in 2004, and briefly left the band. He was back for more recent albums, including “Strangers to Ourselves” and “The Golden Casket,” which came out in 2021.

Fred White, former Earth, Wind, & Fire drummer, R.I.P.

Fred White, a former drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, has died, his brother confirmed on social media. He was 67 years old.

"Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene 'Freddie' White," Verdine White wrote. "He joins our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven and is now drumming with the angels!"

Fred White played in Earth, Wind & Fire from 1971 until 1984, when the band went on hiatus. Verdine White, the band's founding bassist, called him "a member of the EWF ORIGINAL 9."

Robbie Bachman, drummer for Bachman-Turner Overdrive, R.I.P.

Robbie Bachman founded Bachman-Turner Overdrive with his brothers Randy and Tim and bassist Fred Turner, NME reported.

They released both their first album, which was self-titled, and the follow-up “Bachman-Turner Overdrive II” in 1973.

However, it was their third album, “Not Fragile,” released in 1974, which introduced music fans to their hit “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”

They were also known for “Takin’ Care of Business,” “Roll on Down the Highway” and “Let It Ride,” Billboard reported.

Randy Bachman left the band in 1977, and he was replaced by vocalist Jim Clench. But the group only lasted three years before breaking up in 1980.

The band reunited in 1983 with Randy’s return, but Robbie did not come back for the 1984 release of “Bachman-Turner Overdrive.”

Robbie Bachman returned to the band from 1988 to 2005. He did not come back for the 2009 reunion, but he did appear in what would become his final performance with the group in 2014, when Bachman-Turner Overdrive was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, NME reported.

The group disbanded in 2018 for a final time, Billboard reported.

David Crosby R.I.P.

David Crosby, a founding member of ’60s rock icons the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and one of the most celebrated musicians of his generation, has reportedly died at the age of 81.

“It is with great sadness after a long illness that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away,” Crosby’s family said in a statement to Variety. “He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
